Luckily he is up against an even worse politician in Morrison. If the Libs seriously wanted to have a certain win, they would have appointed anyone else and coasted to victory, instead of waiting until after the election as usual to do this. Because of this, the election will be much closer than it should be. Silly politics by the Libs.David wrote:God, Albanese is hopeless.

No, it would have sent the party into meltdown. It would have had to have been a planned transition. A fight for the leadership so close to an election would hand the ALP the election.Lazza wrote:Luckily he is up against an even worse politician in Morrison. Slightly different though, Hawke/Hayden were trying to win from Opposition against Fraser who'd been there a long time and was generally as popular as a fart in an elevator.
Cutting Morrison down before the election would have been messy, people have had enough of it, and it would have turned into a shitfight between Dutton and Frydenberg and neither would have wanted to challenge at this time.
Incumbency does provide some benefits, while Slo Mo isn't exactly Mr Popularity at the moment either, Albo has the sparkling personality of a dish sponge.
Odds are that Labor will win with the help of Independents and Green preferences. In that case, Slo Mo will likely retire and let the party choose the next leader with somewhat clear aironce they finish with the usual naval gazing and blame casting.
If the Lib/Nat's DO win this, Labor will spontaneously explode. It won't be pretty.

Yeah Stu and David, I get your points. If I was a betting man (which I’m not) I would be backing the Libs due to the reasons I posted before. However there is still time for other results so a bit more water to flow under the bridge yet.

Clive Parma is apparently expected to do well in Victoria, mostly as a backlash against Andrews lockdowns.

Whether that translates to anything other than a blip remains to be seen, but if you scroll through the article the amount of money being spent on Youtube ads is ridiculous.
Parma has spent near $16M on 235 ads, Labor has spent around $1M on just under 3500 ads. That's some heavy duty spamming.
