"Marcus Harris responds to being left out of Australia's Test squad to tour Sri Lanka with his second century of the season for Gloucestershire

Australian batters Marcus Harris and Marnus Labuschagne have both scored impressive hundreds for their county sides in the latest run-laden round of championship matches.

For Harris, there was the chance to take out the frustration of being dropped from the national team for the tour of Sri Lanka as he reeled off his second successive ton at home on a record-breaking Saturday for Gloucestershire."

"Meanwhile, Labuschagne was demonstrating again why he's become a such a popular figure at Glamorgan as he hammered his first century of the summer against Derbyshire.

After this week's disappointment, a batter's paradise of a wicket was just what the doctor ordered for Harris as he continued his prolific season against Surrey with a five-hour, 209-ball knock of 124, decorated with 18 boundaries.

It was a superbly constructed ton but wasn't even the stand-out performance of the day, as Harris largely played second fiddle in a record opening stand of 296 with local Bristol boy Chris Dent, who ended up with an unbeaten 207.

Their partnership was the highest for any Gloucestershire wicket in matches against Surrey, surpassing the 285 made by Bev Lyon and Wally Hammond at The Oval 94 years earlier."

"Marnus Labuschagne has fallen just short of a second ton for Glamorgan in as many days, thwarted by fellow Australian Ryan Sidebottom.

Labuschagne followed up his 130 in the first innings at Derby with a dashing 85 from 87 balls on Sunday as he looked to have set up a Glamorgan victory against Derbyshire.

But Victorian-born Sidebottom, the brother of AFL player Steele who has played most of his career in the UK, got rid of the world's No.1 Test batter and took 4-50 as the visitors narrowly failed to pull off a thrilling run chase in as the match ended in a pulsating draw.

Set 331 in 55 overs, Labuschagne and Sam Northeast (81) tore into the target, reducing it to 32 off four overs.

But when Sidebottom removed Northeast to reduce Glamorgan to 8-308, the Welsh side batted out for a draw."

"Michael Hogan, the veteran Australian seamer, will retire from professional cricket at the age of 41 following a testimonial year with Glamorgan in 2022.

A late developer who made his first-class debut at 28 but has since taken 589 wickets across formats for Glamorgan, Hogan was the club's leading wicket-taker in the County Championship in 2021 and took the final wicket in their Royal London Cup final win against Durham in August.

His testimonial year was initially due to be staged in 2020 but has twice been postponed due to the impact of Covid. Hogan joined Glamorgan in 2013, playing through a British passport, and Mark Wallace, the club's director of cricket, suggested he would be a likely inclusion in the county's all-time XI."
