I wouldn't go organising the victory party just yet, but all the signs point toward Labor winning, as David said.

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/fede ... 5ahiv.html

LNP and Labor have about the same primary vote, but Labor has a much better prospect of harvesting preferences.

Some of the independent seats , particularly the faux independent Teal "party" ones will largely shape things. It's likely they'll win a few seats based of Labor and Green preferences and vice versa for Labor. I can't see the Greens doing much in the lower house but again their preferences will hurt the LNP.

The only thing keeping the LNP in the race is Albo. If Labor had a leader with half the Charisma of Hawke or Krudd or the public speaking ability of Keating, the fat lady would have finished singing and gone to the bar by now.

So interest rates have gone up by bugger all, for the first time in years and people are losing their minds over home loan affordability.

Really?

Some of us got home loans back when interest rates were 17-18%, not 4%.

My view is interest rates going up a little should be a good thing.

Those people who over committed when buying assuming rates would stay low will need to sell up.

Housing prices should settle or go down a bit

Self funded retirees and others with cash in banks might actually get some return on their money.

Both major parties have housing affordability plans that might work but will also likely add upward pressure on house prices so it's a mess.

It may cost Morrison, but so be it. It's a good thing IMO

I would definitely have been getting a fixed rate loan over the last few years!

The ALPs housing policy will surely create a huge upward pressure on prices if people who can only afford 400-450,000 home loans can now get a 700-800,000 house!!!

He is an abject spud, but he's looking likely to become PM despite himself.

What I’m saying is that if Albo keeps this up, we may get to enjoy another three years of just that.

Not much to indicate that 3 years under Albo would be better.

Will he invoke his Mum in every decision he makes?

I'm no economist, but as the Economy gathers steam and if unemployment stays low, wages would have to go up.

It's an interesting claim by the ALP that under them wages will increase, how exactly do they control anyones wages other than the public service?

In Victoria under a labor government, the public service is basically facing a pay cut every year with a cap put on any increases which will be well below inflation.

Wages go up, and those costs are passed on to the consumer. So your morning coffee goes from $5 to $7 and this causes inflation.

If current inflation is more momentary than long term, i.e., driven by supply chain pressures, Ukraine etc then it'll settle soon enough.

But once you jack up wages, you can't un jack them.

Agreed. I think we’re at the point where any change on offer is worth trying. I may not think much of Labor’s game plan this time around, but I think it’s clear that a) the Libs are past their use-by date and b) Labor will at least be a safe pair of hands.
