Johnno's last 3 games have seen him missing alot of targets again. I told you if you gave McGough 3 games that you would see his obvious shortcomings again.
Now brace yourselves... is it time at the end of the year to let Rowdy go? I think we need some new heads around malthouse. Rowdy & McKenna (yeah he's new but...) might need to go.
We need innovation. We need Ashcroft and an ex-bomber or maybe a Bickley or a Wallace. Would Wallace or Eade come on board as an assistant i wonder? Why we let Daniher go...

The future's still bright
Sometimes you need to take a step back to go forwards, and our good luck with injuries over the past couple of years has finally turned. No team in the league could afford to lose players of the calibre of Buckley, Burns, Tarrant, Fraser and Lockyer (remember him?) and hope to play at the same level.
We may still scrape through to the finals but the damage has been done. St Kilda and Brisbane may as wll play off for the cup now anyway because they are classes above anyone else.

Have taken my Pies phone cover off my phone for this week, and also gone is the ringtone. When i was walking out og the MCG after the game today, i was embarrassed to be weraing the black and white..... for the first time in my 17 years, i was embarrased to be wearing my Pies jumper.
I can't believe I was reading that! Embarrassed to be wearing black and white? Embarrased enough to change phone covers and ring tones and NOT go to games because we're losing?
Stick around kid! You haven't even lived! I've been a pies supporter for 35 years and even with our losses, I still go to every game, i still wear the black and white, PROUDLY, and I still have the Collingwood ringtone on and I'll still be at the Dome next week!

The big question for me is, the problem is probably one (or more) of 4 things..which one is it? I'm referring of course to the last quarter capitulation.
1. Conditioning/training problem. Very often the team who runs over the top in the last, is just the fittest team on the day. What does sq3 have to say about this??
2. Problem of morale/spirit?
3. Coaching problem? I only listened to the game but suspected our coaching in the last q may have been pretty weak eg not taking advantage of them not having a ruckman in the last q, and no moves paying off.
4. At least for the time being, we are basically a crap team, currently exposed for depth? - until (if) our new players improve a lot.
Perhaps I'll have a better idea when I look at replay later in the week, but any opinions from those who saw it?

Don,t worry about Wallace as assistant Cam, "Have him as COACH!!! MM has had his time. We need a new broom NOW> Out with MM Wakelin Lonie Obree R Shaw Cole Cloke plays CHB Presti at FULL FORWARD he is too slow at full back. We MUST get a full back who is quick. We need a new skills coach who can show 1/2 the team how to hit a target and kick goals, Rocca included. He has let us down on...... I've lost count!!Tackling would be a novel new game they could play at training some times as it is NON existant at present. Then all they need to do is find a bit of heart and bingo, off the bottom.
We are once again the laughing stock of the AFL, even bum sniffing rugby league ppl are having a snipe, and I for one am sick of it.We are pro in every department except on field, and b4 you get on your collective high horses about MAKING GFs , to make it matter you have to WIN them and keep topping up the list which we failed miserably at in the past 2 years.
MM has had his day along with a lot of players and it's time to move on.

Get a grip people, we can't and don't need to get rid of more than 1-2 players (kinnear, rheece, cole if he doesn't do anything for the rest of this year).
Actually it's sad because kinnear was actually one of the least offensive players yesterday. As in most of the rest were offensive to watch due to their painful disposal and lack of effort.
A new coach.... i'm still undecided but at the very least we need an overhaul of the assistant's as they seem to be training the players in the art of having nothing: no skills; no tackling; no footy smarts... And let's not start with recruiting.
Perhaps MM would become rejuvenated if he has a more competant support staff around him, one who would question his actions on occasions and force him to analyse his own tactics in more depth.

There is no way Eade or Wallace would give up lucrative media positions for an assistant coaching role.
I agree Brown needs to get experience elsewhere. McKenna needs some serious pressure put on him but as the year is a gonna they should set some targets for him on the understanding failure will cost his job. Sometimes the lowest point (which is clearly now) is also the turning point and tough people like McKenna can sometimes rise to the occasion when things are at their lowest.
TD may well land a well earned senior coaching role next year after constant success in lesser roles in country, VFL and AFL and good luck to him. But without knowing exactly the workings of the club and who is deciding what I can't make any worthwhile comment on what needs to change. The only answer is beating the Saints this week, not another honourable loss (how misleading have those two games been...)

Bokka - you are right - the Pies currently are the WORST conditioned team in the AFL - no 16.
Which other team has injured 2 of their top 10 at training - Bux and Josh doing hammies at training is inexcusable and shows that we are not going the right way with the training.
Our conditioning is a joke and it all seems to have stemmed from the pre season. I don't know what weights program they were on - but no one else is surely on it and that is why we are dead last.
Look at other players Lions Black cannot run fast but can run all day, Aker rarely gets out of 3rd gear now - why - so he can balance correctly prior to kicking, Saint Harvey was never fast but now cruises and rarely sprints - the ball can always travel faster than you can.
Saints and Lions trainings are all about skills, constant movement and soft hands. I saw the Lions training where they pair up and stand about 5 metres apart and throw and catch the ball one handed overhead (like a water polo pass). What this does is allow them to feel for the ball sort of like Wareny spinning it a few times prior to the delivery. You get to the stage where the ball hits the flat of your hand, spins and you have it in the palm. It also allows them to have very soft hands and the only other drill I have seen with this is slips catching. This is why you see the Saints and Lions tapping the ball to each other and seem to just attract the ball off the ground into their hands - and our guys are going after it with welding gloves on.
We are light years behind on the conditioning and training methods employed by the better clubs and this shows on match day.

Young inexperienced heads and unfit players. lack of onfield leaders with Buckley's and Lockyer's absence.
Brisbane - crushed us after half time.
Essendon - ran away with it in the last.
Port - ran away with it booting 3.6 to 1.1 with 10 minutes to go.
Carlton - overran us with 6 goals to nil from 10 minute mark.
Our inablity to score goals in time on and constantly let the opposition boot multiple goals in this same period (how many times have we had scores kicked on us just prior to and after the siren of quarters this season?) hurts. Look at the 2002 GF - it cost us that day and has been inherant in our game ever since.
(Add Buckley, Burns, Fraser, Lockyer, Davidson, Prestigiacoma, C. Cloke to yesterday's team and it looks a decent outfit - unfortunately, we lack depth when needed. Scotland, Betheras, etc. would be handy in these times of struggle.)
