After what I saw today and just thinking about the game I recon that we could have been beaten by the BOTTOM team of the ladder.....Think about the statement and see what you think.
There is no excuse for the losses. If we have 18 on the park and 4 on interchange then those players SHOULD play to the best of their ability.Remember there are 4 quarters of footy not 2 1/2 quarters.
I am watching the Crows & Port and Port are playing like we did today....no interest and no pattern.
I suggest that we just watch the rest of the season go by and look forward to next year.
We would have to win the next 15 games to even make the top 8 and all the teamsabove would have to loose.
Can you see the Saints doing that.
At least I would like to see the Saints V Swans for a final even at this stage of the season.

(snip)
it has been since the first game of the Wizard Cup when we were belted by over 100 points by the West Coat Weagles
and you know what other than Hawthorn, we are playing that bad, I can't see us winning another game all season
(snip, snip)
how do you go from total intensity to "I couldn't give a SHIT!" like they were today..in half a year?
only one answer..

That was the lowest standard game I have seen at AFL level for a long time - both teams should be ashamed of the first half. I thought Richards tapwork was good, Walker was a livewire but can't kick, Leon did his job, Kinnear showed at least something and Lonie is getting a bit of run going. But we still look slow, unfit and overall like a DUMB football team who does not have any strategy at all.
How bad were the kick ins? Looking from behind the goals there was absolutley nothing for Lonie and co to kick to. Even Carlton looked a lot better in this regard.
And I thought the umpiring swayed the game in the last quarter with crucial in the back decisions in the Carlton forward line and ruck decisions that almost reeked of bias. Carlton also got away with a ton of holding and were hardly called for the same in the back decisions eg Rocca all day.
Watching Heath's crisp disposal and general dominance was the real killer as well. Man that was hard to take.

All I can add is that if we WON the next 15 games, the way we are playing I would meet London Dave in my wheelchair, paddling with a streamer,on the course leading to Athens for the Olympic games and there aint much chance of that.
Why dont we all send a message to the Board and demand some answers....there MUST be something AMISS at the top.
Maybe the Logies/Who wants to be a Millionaire have got too heavy for Eddie,or som one has got a bee in their bonnet and dosent want us to win.
Actually I remember when the PIES beat The Scum in the 1991 G.F.....the next year we finished 2nd bottom,so we are one better tbhis time round.
Gee Dave,Can I get a propeller driven wheelchair, with a streamer paddle and I shall meet you in Athens....thats only IF we get into the 8.
Sacasm will get me everywhere wont it...hehehehe

I am a pretty positive person but right at this moment, I feel like shit! I can't believe some of the decision making and the skill errors. Did anyone see the errors count at 3 quarter time. I am pretty sure we had over 30. Also can someone please explain to me as to what has happened with our kicking in????

I'm too sad for words - was going out tonight for my b-day tomorrow & mothers day......had to have a few quick drinks to try and calm myself back down. Still hasn't worked though. I still can't understand how we could be 27 points up in the final quarter and lose. I still can't understand how Cole could drop a mark like that - my 10 year old son could have done better. I can't understand how Lonie could be soooo stupid with his kicking in. And finally I still can't understand how we can have people like Kinnear and Cole in our team. I guess I will just watch the TAC Cup games with renewed interest this year to see who we are going to get.....

that was a disgraceful last quarter Bob Rose would have turned in his grave watching that effort. Lets be honest we had 18 players on the field that played in last years grand final so we can't have any excuses. Of those players here are there possesions for today.
Bux 5 poss. will mis next 3-4 with re-occuring injury
Clement 9 possesions
Cloke 9 possesions
Cole 3 possesions
Davis 12 possesions 4 goals good game
Didak 8 poss. need more from him
Holland 18 poss oponent camporele 13 good game by Holland may be cited on trial by video for being reckless
Johnson 14 good 3 quaters went missing in the last
Kinear 12 possesions played ok today
Licuria 17 possesions
Lokan 6 touches maybe he needs a run with role like last year
Lonie 16 possesions getting better
Obree 21 possesions neede to kick that goal to save us
rocca 14 poss. we need him to kick those goals when needed not miss them
tarrant 8 possesions probably not 100% but got through unscathed
wakes 7 possesions
walker 7 possesions looked like he could play when he can get the football
Woewodin 24 possesions played ok but looks like he pulls up short in some contests
9 out of our 18 grand final players(last year) got less than 10 possesions not a good stat
others
King 2 possesions not ready yet
Mcgough 13 possesions ok today still needs to work on foot skills worth persisting with
Richards 5 possesions 24 hit outs looks the goods keep playing him and get some strength into him
Swan 21 possesions looked good today
Bux 5 poss. will mis next 3-4 with re-occuring injury
Clement 9 possesions
Cloke 9 possesions
Cole 3 possesions

Everyone should stop bagging Cloke and take a look at Bloody Ritchie Cole. He has done NOTHING this year, and i have yet to see any improvement since when he first came into the team. It seems like everyone i talk to believes in him but objectively he is dead weight and i think MM realised this as he was on the bench for most of the match.
Lonie wasn't great today, but wasn't shocking, same with brodie and MCG (though most of the team's disposal was pathetic). Licka completely shut down stevens and thus can keep his head high, clement was clearly a better matchup on fervola then wakelin, even i saw this before the match started. BAD mistake MM. Cloke was nowhere NEAR our worst player, in the last quarter when we were getting overrun at least he showed anger and dissappointment where the other players seemed apathetic and detatched. Taz did enough from a player returning from injury, leon did well hope he can keep it up! obree, last week seems like its going to be a one hit wonder. Kinnear was actually reasonable today, we dont expect marvels (and he certainly doesn't create them!) but he does basically what he can as an average-poor player.
Lokan, richards and swan were great and it's always good to see lokan fly the flag in the brawls etc which happen around the ground. One of the only players with any physical presence. Johnno and tex weren't bad, Clement and wakes were well and truly beaten by fervola. Didak was missing all day....
what can i say it was a pathetic performance.. i really thought we could come away with a scraped together win but carlton earned their victory fair and square.
My main problem is that apart from lokan i have not seen a single player step up from last year. Richards and swan have cemented their places, King has done nothing, mullins is being kept away from the seniors 'Scotland-esque', and the remainder of our youngsters have remained the 'future hopeful's' they've been for the last 3 years.
Improvement to come? i think so, but a major overhaul of the list is needed and i think we need at the VERY LEAST a new assistant coach to shake things up. We are going to lift for next week as per usual in the big games but still come up short. And let me state in advance:
Young draft picks are meaningless at the moment. We need to trade for solid second teir players. Do 2,3 - 1 swaps if neccessary. We have a very solid top 6-10 core group of players, it's the rest that are pathetic, and need to be replaced. For the time being i suggest playing heath and brayden shaw and *shock horror* MULLINS!
GO PIES

Agreed with everything except that statement. I personally believe Johno's stepped it up another notch (even over last year's improvement). Went missing toward the end of the game, but then, seeing our result...who didn't?sherrife wrote:My main problem is that apart from lokan i have not seen a single player step up from last year.
Regardless, I also share your admiration for Lokan's passion around the melees. It's refreshing to see someone who'd stick up for their mates. Something you don't see often these days in the black and white.
Something I don't understand with us...We were taking 'garbage' players in our first few years of rebuilding. Anyone remember where Clement and Holland came from? These guys were delisted by FREMANTLE (pre-we-can-win-a-match-without-the-other-team-not-turning-up days) and yet we took them and made them useful. Steinfort, Wakelin and Rupert also come to mind.sherrife wrote:Young draft picks are meaningless at the moment. We need to trade for solid second teir players. Do 2,3 - 1 swaps if neccessary. What happened to making a champion team instead a team of champions? I was worried when I heard we made the trade for Woewodin, and I was even more worried when everyone and their dog wanted Stevens.
Somewhere in between losing finals, we lost our way and saw that we were this close to attaining the ultimate glory that we should snatch that one or two pieces now and make short-term gains instead of long-term ones. I think that can be seen by our lack of depth to fill the injuries for the likes of Burns and Buckley. Not easy shoes to fill, to be sure. But our seeming inability to cope at all is worrisome.
Oh well. All we can hope for at this stage is that we keep trying.

Yea fair call i forgot about johnno he's been starring. Anyone else want to give me examples of cole really earning his place? apart from being a good tackler...makkawakka wrote:Agreed with everything except that statement.
