Today is 725 days since “2 weeks to flatten the curve” was announced.

Over 70% of people that have died with COVID had significant pre-existing medical conditions.

The median age of death is 82. Life expectancy in Australia is 82.

Restrictions still remain.

^ You come very late to this conversation. As I set out recently in this thread (or its immediate predecessor), more than 50% of the population has a "significant pre-existing medical condition", so it's scarcely surprising that a lot of those people have died from COVID. Add to that that we know COVID is much more dangerous to older people (who are disproportionately likely to have "significant pre-existing medical conditions") and the 70% figure you refer to is wholly unsurprising (whether or not it is correct, since you don't provide any sources).

Your other observation is, of course, irrelevant. In fact, it's worse than irrelevant - it actually undermines the point that I imagine you would like to make, if you had the tools at your disposal to do so: Life expectancy is also a measure of central tendency, so comparing the "median age of death" of people with COVID with life expectancy tells us nothing, of itself. Both figures (assuming either of them is correct) simply mean that half the people die under that age and half die over. That's not the "QED" you were looking for, I fear.

There are some intelligent points to be made about these matters (Stui Magpie, eg, has on occasion raised them) - but you're not making any of them.

Very funny.

"Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a damn big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of damn fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the **** you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing damn junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, $@&^# up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got concerns about the pharmaceutical industry?"

Interesting little skit. Completely misses the points that people still have choice and all choices have consequences of some kind.

I don't agree with the breadth of the mandatory vaccination orders in Victoria, but they still leave people with choice.

Well, looks like there are at least two people in this thread who haven't seen Trainspotting.

Stui and TP, you're both banned from posting anything in the movies thread until you catch up on this one. ;)

Forget Trainspotting, you're going to have to watch the complete works of Andrei Tarkovsky to make that deal remotely fair.

If the alternative was being shot in the head, I'd open discussion on the caliber of the weapon and the proposed target spot.
