K: "On a different note, Rory Smith keeps writing beautiful football articles. I've considered starting a thread just on Rory Smith articles."
Jezza: "Start a thread, K.
I welcome it "
Finally, here it is, Jezza! He also posts frequently on social media... Which is what reminded me I said I'd start the thread. Stay tuned!

^ The uncertainty of what comes after Abramovich is stressful. I hope the club can smoothly transition away from the current owner as quickly as possible.
I feel conflicted about Abramovich. The man transformed us into a powerful club in England and Europe so I think Chelsea fans will always feel a level of affinity towards him and feel grateful for his financial investment, though no one has been under any illusion of his shady past.
As an outsider, it's probably easy to dismiss him and celebrate his exodus from football, but for Chelsea it's almost bittersweet in a strange way.
I guess sportswashing has succeeded here

Yeah, always interesting to hear fans' views.
But for Rory, it's about more than just "sportswashing". As he wrote,
"So, too, the clubs face a reckoning. Not only the teams owned by princelings and nation states and politicians, but those that are not. It is not just the promise of soaring television rights deals that have drawn the “acceptable” investors into soccer, the private equity groups and the hedge funds and the Wall Street speculators. They have no more fallen in love with the game than Abramovich."
It's related to his views on the aborted Super League... See below (article from 11 months ago).
