This game presents the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with the one stone. Firstly we beat our oldest and most bitter rivals and secondly we get our season back on track.
Carltons season has been a bit of a yoyo with one week them being up and the next week being down. After a thumping loss to Melbourne they are due to be up this week. One thing is for sure though whenever the opposition is Collingwood they will be up and about.
Carltons main weakness if their backline. Hence Denis Pagan playing the likes of Fat Farm, Lappin and Houlihan back there. Lappin and Houlihan both know how to use the ball but both zone off their opponents and give them plenty of room. Hopefully Didak and Davis can be on top of their game both in attack and in defence. It is imperative that we shut down their creativity. As for the Fat Farm i think with the return of Kouta Fat Farm could return up forward. Tarrant, Rocca, Fraser, Didak and Davis is a pretty impressive forward line on paper. Hopefully with enough supply they can kick a winning score.
If Fat Farm plays up forward this week the Carlton Forward line doesnt look as one dimensional or dependent on Fevola. However one would think that Presti, Wakelin and Cloke will be able to do the job. Last week Melbournes half back line smashed the Carlton half forward line and generated plenty of run. Hopefully Lonie, Johnson, Clement and Bucks can generate similar run.
Carltons strength has probably become their midfield with the likes of Campo, Scotland and Stevens. Holland should take Stevens. Maybe Woewodin on Camporeale or Scotland. Woewodin owes us a big effort this week after a shocking game against Port. McGough should take Brett Johnson (who is equally slow). McGough is playing great footy so i expect him to win that duel. If Woewodin, Lonie, Davis and Didak had any football smarts they would be hanging around McGough who is an absoloute ball magnet but does not have the speed to carry the ball but has great hands. Woewodin, Lonie, Davis and Didak should be the ball carriers and not leave it up to McGough. McGough is the ball winner.
In the ruck Richards/Fraser should be able to take care of French. However i would like to see Fraser spend most of his time up forward to help expose the lack of height in the Carlton backline.
Hopefully the football world will see the real Collingwood this week as we notch up our second victory for thsi season.

I'm very nervous in saying this as i know you all respect him greatly as i do myself but i don't feel that Presti throws his body in enough before opposition leads. he constantly seems 5 paces behind. That's not where we need him against fevola. just a bit more body to body and not letting the dreaded forward to lead out so easliy and i think we will pump them by 15 goals instead of 10.
Please dont hate me but it's an honest opinion, feel free to correct me.

i reckon clement or wakelin does the job on fervola...
maybe we could give presti a rest as there doesnt seem to be a matchup for him? especially since he is a purely negating type player, if there is no one for him to stop, there is no point having him in the side.

Licuria will get Stevens (Powder Puff One). Holland did well on Camporeale (Powder Puff Two) last time. Woewodin will start on Scotland (Powder Puff Three). McGough will run loose and get 30+ poss again unless someone tags him, then it will be more like 20. They will realise how bad they miss Ratten.
Presti will need to keep Fevola either in close or outside 60. Fevola is a big kick but Presti is good in close. Expect Cloke 1 to help Presti out more when Fevola is on a lead. Boom Crash Opera.
Our biggest worries will be the drive of Lappin and Houlihan. Johnno may even get one of them to quiten them down. Bucks on Houlihan would be money.
We need to forget about them a bit and just put the foot down and run. If we don't get too defensive and attack like we did against Port we will blow them to the shiezen and feel the force flowing through us once more.
Mullins would be twice the value of Shaw. Nixon would be the same value, as would his Cuz Brayden.
We attack: Pies by 66 points
We go defensive: Pies by 13 or Blues by 5.
Time for 4 goals Dids.

C: Woewodin, Buckley, Licuria.
HF: Didak, Rocca, Davis.
F: C.Cloke, Tarrant, Holland.

IN: Buckley, Tarrant, Fraser*.
OUT: King, Kinnear, Shaw*.
*(From selected side last week)
The Match:
In what could be seen as the turning point for the season for both clubs, Collingwood should prevail over Carlton who was pittiful last week against Melbourne. Collingwood has been dissapointing so far this season having only won 1 match out of 6 whilst Carlton isn't doing much better having won 2 matches out of 6. The time is now for both clubs. A win is a must for eithers side. Colingwood will win. Read on to find out.
Carltons forward line has lost a lot of it's potency in recent times but it has recently been revived by Brendan Fevola. Fevola has had a wonderful season infront of the big sticks and it will be Shane Wakelins job to keep him quiet. Wakelin never gives in and never stops trying. He is the ideal match up for the enigmatic Blue. Lance Whitnall could also be thrown forward by Dennis Pagen. If he is, Prestigiacomo will most likely be used to stop big Lance. Shut down Fevola and Whitnall and shut down Carlton. It's easy isn't it? If young Steven Kenna is put back onto the side, Ben Johnson will probably get the job on him. In the middle of the ground, Heath Scotland will be pitted against his old side for the 1st time since he left at the end of 2003. 'Scooter' will have point to prove to Mick Malthouse, so he will be even more pumped up than usural. He will be tagged by Shane Woewodin who has been down on form so far this season, so tagging a player in form will help him get back into form. The other midfield dangers are Nick Stevens and Scott Camporearle. Many belevied that Stevens should be in the black and white this Saturday but he is on the opposing side. He is the blues midfield key, and will be tagged and scragged by Brodie Holland. Camporearle is not a vital for Carlton but has the ability to hurt an opposition. Paul Licuria will be thrown on to 'Campo' and will look to play off him by winning his own ball to hurt the Blues midfield. For the Magpies, Nathan Buckley will be tagged by David Clarke. In a crunch game for Clarke, he will be thrown into the deep end on the Magpie skipper who is returning from injury. Shane O'Bree and Mark McGough both had brilliant matches last week against the power and will have to be watched as will Brett Johnson, who has starred so far for the Blues. The loss of Scott Burns will also hurt the Pies, as his ability to win the ball and use it well will be sorely missed. In the ruck, Fraser, who was a late withdrawal last week, and Guy Richards will go up against Barnaby French and the new boy Adrian DeLuca. For once, Collingwood might have the ruck advantage. Up forward for Collingwood, the return of Chris Tarrant will be a huge boost for the Pies. Tarrant has been out of action since round 4 and his return to the forward line will also help big Anthony Rocca who has struggled when double teamed by the oposition. In his 150th match for Collingwood, big Rocca will look for a big match against the old enemy. If both Rocca and Tarrant kick 4 goals each we will win and win well. Cameron Cloke will also play a part. Cloke has looked the goodes in his 1st 2 matches and if he can continue to give a contest and kick a goal or two he has done his job. Alan Didak and Leon Davis also play a big part. They will most likely be manned up by Houlahan and Lappin, who constantly run off opponants. If we play threw 'Dids' and 'Magic' we could buy an extra 6 goals.
In the wash up, Collingwood should win easily. They are running into form and the Blues are coming off a big a loss. With Tarrant and Rocca kicking 4 each and McGough and Holland wiining 25 touches each, the Pies should win easily.
Prediction: Pies by 48 points.[/b]

Presti to get a rest for the ankle this week.
I have bene bagging Presti all year and last week he was nearly back to where he was last year. Some of the delivery to Tredders could not have been stopped by anyone.
BUT - One of the Pies best traits came through last week - When any Pies player got the ball and was running the other Pies players were not running alongside - BUT they were actually LOOKING for Port players to put their body on.
This is the confident building type oF TEAM play that we have been used to seeing and now it is returning and who better to inflict it on than the Blues.
Presti was one of the best when the boys were running out of defence and he was the black and white road block.
I saw a big sign at the G one day and it really made me laugh.
THERES NOTHING BETTER THAN BEATING THE BLUES.
