My take was clearly he clearly referred to what might happen after he finishes up, and he very mush wants to be a one-club player.
I haven't heard the interview, but wasn't it in answer to a question about doing a Sam Mitchell?Jezza wrote:Good on Pendles for clarifying his comments.
Can't believe so many misinterpreted or misunderstood his original comments.
We all know Mitchell had a play-and-coach package with WC...
Time to step up and pay for what we can afford Scott and LEAD LEAD LEAD the way. Haggling for a 2 year deal at 34 years of age is simply selfish, unrealistic and represents a poor indicator of intent. Great champions of recent times:
* Brent Harvey
* Nick Riewoldt
* Shaun Burgoyne
Have all played on one year deals after 32 years of age. Scott, you've played since 2006 for the Pies and along with Mick Malthouse, have commanded and received more wages/incentives than any predecessors in the history of the club, likely over $10,000,000.
As Andre Agassi once said to Yevgeny Kafelnikov who complained that tennis players were "underpaid". He opined "how about go and buy some perspective"!

The mate syndrome.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:I disagree. Give him a two year contract at 400K a year which will see out his career. We owe him that.
This is really what is wrong with collingwood.
Has been this way since the war.
It is a cultural issue that infects our club,, our supporters and our players.
At what point does a player owe the club then? Scott NEVER has to work again. The last ex captain who held out was in 1986 and we know what Leigh said to Chocco: "this is the date, if not signed by then it's goodbye...."MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:I disagree. Hasn't been seen in Hoddle Street since.
PS: Chocco was only 28 years old

That was different. Mark had a family to support and took the money to go to Brisbane. He'd slowed down by that stage anyway and the club hardly lost anything by letting him go. Pendlebury is different. He's twice the player Choco was. He's looked after his body and he's got two good years left in him. He's still our best starting mid despite losing a bit of his pace and Pendlebury has never relied on his pace in any case.inxs88 wrote:At what point does a player owe the club then? Good points but the optics of a 34 year old lobbying for "2 years" after collecting $10,000,000 from the club over 15 seasons at a time when the salary cap and club is on its knees is terrible. Especially after his Triple M comments. Graham Wright stand firm.

I don’t understand how we can owe Pendlebury or any other player for that matter anything.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:I disagree. Give him a two year contract at 400K a year which will see out his career. We owe him that.
They get paid by the club for playing.
It’s is just a job for nearly all AFL players and they do what’s best for them as do the clubs for themselves.
