Thought they had pick 3, but yes its 4.

Can we trade for early picks when bids are coming in on Daicos?

Indicative draft order:
1. North
2. GWS
3. Suns
4. Adelaide

Crows would have been keen on Horne, but he wont be there at their first pick.

So who will be the team that bids on Daics? And should we try to trade for a top 4 pick??

We need to remember that because North won the spoon doesnt mean they go to the draft with pick one on the night.
If I was the Crows, I would make an offer to north for a swap of picks that give the crows # 1 and north would receive # 4 and another later first rounder. That way the Crows get a south Australian and North win by selecting a Vic and also not worrying about Horne going home after two years. North also find themselves with an additional first round selection.

The smart thing for whoever has pick one on the night is to call out both Daicos and Darcy before their first live pick. The sooner you flush out the Dogs and Pies picks, the quicker that club moves themselves ( and others ) up the draft order with their later picks.
I would be very confident Daicos and Darcy will both be called out as #1 and # 2 ( or visa versa )

I doubt if Maynard is worth a pick inside the top ten. He’s probably closer to 10 - 13 at best. Collingwood still wouldnt keep that pick on the night as it would just get eaten up in the Daicos points and be wasted. I have no doubt they would on trade for a ready made player, hopefully one down the spine.
We only need to START our points accumulation for Daicos with a pick or two in the second round. Keeping anything earlier is just throwing away a good pick when it could have been used elsewhere.

Been saying for a while now - Believe Maynard wants out and Id look to trade him for a Player we need this year or make him finish his contract and get a compo pick in next years draft min.

We cant use a high pick for him this year unless we use that to trade for the player we need.

Carlton are basically in the same situation as us. There are disgruntled players upset with turmoil of the coaching speculations going on. They don’t know where they stand in the pecking order of the club and what’s going to happen to them once the new coach steps through the door. I imagine many will be thinking they want out and who can blame them. Even the stalwarts like Scott Pendlebury will be edgy and the media will make hay while the sun shines.

However once the new coach steps through the door, if he’s any good he’ll have conversations with every player on the the list and outline his vision for the club and explain where each player sits within his vision for the club. Then I imagine once the ice is broken players will get back to doing what they do best which is enjoying the company of their teammates and planning the year ahead. Guys like Maynard I imagine are on the untouchables list. You never trade your best players away unless you want to spend the next 5 years on the bottom of the ladder, only the ones determined to leave for the money or whatever reason.

I got drawn and quartered for making an observation about his body language etc and me drawing a conclusion that something wasn’t right.

While I would hate to see Maynard go anywhere, him moving on may yet be the circuit breaker this club needs to both add some strength to their trade / draft hand and also free up the cap for a ready made player down the spine.
I love the way Maynard goes about but he’s a flanker, albeit a very good one.
While Maynard himself would be hard to replace, it’s also nothing a cohesive back six and a hard working mid field couldn’t compensate for.
If someone offered us a pick around the low teens , I would think most would quickly adjust to a footy life without him.

Nope, I wouldn’t adjust! We need Maynard! I need Maynard!!!
Please stay Maynard!!!!!!

He is a heart and soul player. THAT is what this club needs more of.
I’ll take him any day over a low pick.

And by the way RE. Body language.
He’s pissed off. We all are! It’s been a shocker . I’d be annoyed if he wasn’t pissed off. This is the type of guy he is. Wears his heart on his sleeve.
Love him
