So, Italy stuffs Spain on penalties. Very good outcome - Spanish football has been tedious for about 20 years. Yes, it wins things but, gee, it's awful.

England just home in extra time, with a penalty to break the deadlock. Of course, you knew that the Danes would score both goals during the 90 minutes - a brilliant free kick and then an own-goal....

Anyway, my days as a professional octopus are over - after selecting the winner 5 games in a row from the start of the quarter-finals, the Danes have let me down. I expect to be turned into sushi or else lightly fried in tempura batter any moment, now. But, before my octopus goose is cooked, Italy 3, England 0 for the Final.

Italy win. On penalties, of course. England led from the second minute until Italy decided to break their hearts with an equaliser. Italy, who have the best goalkeeper in the known universe, then decided to knock the ball around at the back until the end of normal time and then of extra time. In the shootout, Southgate's apparent genius in substituting in a couple of penalty-takers just before the final whistle looked a bit ordinary when both failed on their penalty attempts. So, 1-1 after extra time and 3-2 on penalties.
