Post Match - Pies v. Bummers ... your thoughts ??
Dids took a nice grab, and we still have bad skills and/or decision making.

This is the third try to put this post up so lets see how it goes this time.
The guys played well up until 3/4 time,BUt I noticed that Hurd,LLoyd Fletcher & Riolli all played a part in the downfall.
The game was good until 3/4 time, but then the guys then just laid down and went to sleep.
If they arent too carefull MM will have to look towards 2005.
Come of fellas give us something to cheer about will you.

McGough brilliant, Johnson good, Jason Cloke impressive. Rocca again the key. Dids back in form. Even O'Bree lifted.
We were in the game right up until Ted Richards got that goal on 3/4 time. That took the momentum. And then the game went right threw our grasp.
Only a Tarrant & Buckley away from a few victorys. Post more soon.

James Hird was the difference today. Twice we threatened to break away with the game, and both times it was him that stopped our run.
Improved performance by the boys, but there are still obvious problems with our team. We are really limited up forward without taz.
Pebs tried hard today, if he kicked straight we may have had a better chance, dids played well - did some brilliant things. McGough finally got a game and showed why he should have had one ages ago. I just hope he keeps it up instead of disappearing into oblivion again.
Woewodin was good today, under the packs and was good in the clearances. He's a good shot at goal. Burnsy tried hard all day and tried to give us a target up forward. Johnson and CLement both played well again. Josh basically had to ruck for most of the game before he was pushed up forward in the last quarter. Tried hard again. And Jason Cloke did ok today, looked far more comfortable down back, and even looked respectable up forward.
Cam Cloke looked ok without being spectacular. Doesnt look as if he is fit enough to last a whole game at AFL level. But i didnt expect much from him. Did well enough however, some good marks and provided a physical presence.
Now for the not too good..... Obree..... shocker again. Best kick he had all day was when he hit a bomber player on the chest on the wing. Fumbled so many times, really really needs to find some touch. Rhyce shaw....... terrible when he was on. Was in the forward line, didnt even attempt to mark or at least make the fullback at the time earn the mark, didnt hold him up and they take it to the length of the field and score. I dont think he got anymore game time after that anyway, but that was terrible.
Lica again i thought was down, really needs to lift. At least it looked like he had a go unlike shaw.
BUt it was an improved performance, still disappointing cause we lost but at least it wasnt as bad as the last few weeks. Hopefully they can continue to improve next week, maybe taz back *prays*

Much better performance than I expected. Easily our best for the season so far ... but nowhere near good enough.
Nevertheless, some good signs. For almost three quarters we were right in it.
Great to see McGough back. He looked like he could have been anything in his first couple of games ... and he's done nothing since ... until today. Great game.
Ben Johnson was superb today ... but he won't play next week ... and possibly the week after. He's GORN.
Woewodin played OK. Burns was OK. Fraser was good.
Oh, and who could forget ... DIDAK ... great to see him in amongst it. We need him to play like that regularly.
I thought both Clokes were pretty good at times, particularly Jason.
Still a long way off a win, I reckon ... but at least they can hold their heads up this week. They weren't disgraced.
Oh, and one last comment ... congratulations James Hird ... a true champion.

I thought the endeavour of the side was quite good today especially to get back into the game after they were so far down. We just dont have the form at the moment to win these sorts of games. What a difference in the 2nd and 3rd quarter when we were moving the ball quickly. I thought the goal just before 3 quarter time was the real killer.
Has any one else noticed this but our kicking in all season has been terrible. Last year we were the leading team in kicking a goal from a kick in.

Match Review:
In a match which was so promsing up until 3/4 time, Essendon run away with the match in the last quarter winning by 33 points. The margin didn't do justice to the Magpies, who were right in the contest all day.
Essendon got the jump in the 1st quarter, leading by 25 points at the 1st change with Fraser with their only major but during the second quarter the Maggies got right back on top with goals to McGough, Lokan, Burns, Woewodin and an absolute pearler, or as some would say 'Daicos like' but Alan Didak, who dribbled the ball through the big sticks from the pocket. Throughout the quarter, Collingwood, through McGough, Johnson & Didak got themselves back into the contest, trailing by only 13 points at the long brake.
In the third quarter, both teams went goal for goal in a quarter chock full of highlights. Alan Didak, in a return to form took one of the marks of the year over Andrew Welsh in front of goal and then converting to put the scores level. 'Dids' also provided yet another highlight with a terrific intercept 40 metres out and then converting on the run. Big Anthony Rocca started the quarter well with 2 big goals and providing a real target up forward. But every time Collingwood seemed capable of pulling away from Essendon, the Dons fought back with a quick repliy. 2 goals in a minute from Essendon including the goal with turned the game by Ted Richards gave the Bombers a 16 point lead at 3/4 time and all thje momentum with it. Again, Mark McGough provided the Pies great service through the middle with many a clearance and many of them long driving balls to the 'hot spot' 30 metres out to Anthony Rocca.
It was now or never for Collingwood in terms of the match and had to get the 1st goal but it was the Bombers who wanted the ball more and kicked away with 4 goals for the quarter. McGough with the only major for the Pies.
A dissapointing finish to the match for the Pies, but we can take many positives out of the contest. McGough with 29 disposels gave us some bite around the packs, Jason Cloke came back to form with 5 marks and 17 touches, Alan Didak's return to touch with 3 goals and a big specky and Ben Johnson's never ending run. Come on Pies! With the return of Tarrant nigh, we are a big chance to knock the Power off their high horse. GO PIES!!
Player Reveiw:
Scott Burns: 7/10 - Always at the fall of the ball and gave the team great drive all day.
James Clement: 6/10 - Tried hard on Hird but couldn't hold him for too long. Never gave in.
Cameron Cloke: 4/10 - Gave a contest, which is all he was asked to do. Promising debut and showed endevour.
Jason Cloke: 6/10 - Got some-where near the 2002 form we know and love from Clokey. Worked hard and held his own.
Richard Cole: 4/10 - Gave a contest and provided some run.
Alan Didak: 7.5/10 - Great match! Looked hungry for a goal and showed some Daicos like quallitys. One of the best.
Josh Fraser: 3/10 - Quiet match apart from early goal.
Brodie Holland: 5/10 - Tackled with endevour and chased with ferousity. Good match.
Ben Johnson: 7/10 - Mr Reliable. Great game, never stopped running, gave an option and gave great drive. Great game once again.
David King: 1.5/10 - Hardly sighted.
Paul Licuria: 5.5/10 - Some-where back to his usural form but still a way to go. Never stopped trying.
Matthew Lokan: 4/10 - Good early but faded.
Ryan Lonie: 4/10 - Not much to write home about. Needs to get it and run to get some confidence.
Mark McGough: 9/10 - Why does he feaster down at Williamstown? 29 touches and just piped by Hird for ANZAC Medal. Cemented his spot for the following months.
Shane O'Bree: 4/10 - Tried hard but just can't generate some run.
Simon Prestigiacomo: 3/10 - Quiet match.
Guy Richards: 3/10 - Couldn't get into the match.
Anthony Rocca: 6/10 - Gave an option and threatened to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Running into form.
Rhyce Shaw: 1/10 - Very quiet. VFL beckons.
Dane Swan: 5/10 -Busy game and held his own.
Shane Wakelin: 5/10 - Tried to hold Lloyd but fought a loosing battle all day. Never stopped trying.
Shane Woewodin: 7/10 - Solid game and did well. Getting into form and fittness.
