Callum Brown should not be in the team. Hate to say that but his kicking for goal is terrible.
Was at the game and the crowd was SCREAMING to move the ball quickly as we were going into attack. But NOOOO!!!
Is that how they played in the first half? [ I missed that]
If I could ask Bucks one question, it would be.
Is that slow play sideways and backwards, is that under YOUR instruction???
Or do the players panic and not have the confidence to take it on and risk making errors?

I’m humbled by your comments. Look I understand the utter frustration that exists at present and most posters wear their heart’s on their sleeves. They want change for the better as we all do but what we individually want can be different. Just a different way of solving the same problem.bally12 wrote: FWIW I think Lazza is one of the best posters here - always fair and balanced with constructive things to say about the team. People are entitled to have a view on Nathan Buckley and not let it affect their analysis of the game.

Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

Agree with this, especially with our handballing. It's either at a players feet or above the head... And Sidey somehow had trouble receiving handballs all together... I think he fumbled 3 crucial moments when we had momentum.Big T wrote:I thought Tyler had some good moments in traffic and is worth persisting with.
Our handballing is atrocious in general at the moment.

Just looking at the top 5 Pies moments from the game:
* it was SO good to see Grundy playing more like his old self - marking, kicking goals, rucking tirelessly nearly the whole game, showing lot of energy and endeavour
* young Daics really has great goal kicking skills - if he can display them more often that would be a huge plus
* Crispy really has come of age as a mid-fielder and has Adams-like tenacity and courage
* Roughie played a superb game - his only error was under-estimating the agility of Charlie Dixon in the last quarter (:
* Caleb Poulter - what composure from one so young and inexperienced!!

Terribly frustrating to lose a game we should have won.
However, it is wrong to point the finger at our short kick possession style game plan. The truth is, that's what put us in a winning position. We frustrated Port all day. Had we played continuous play on direct football, as many here seem to have wanted, we would have been thrashed. We would have easily lost a shoot out type game. Our plan was clearly to strangle Port, by denying them possession.
We lost because we lack a strong bodied power forward and because we played (again) Callum Brown. The kid tries his damndest, but he simply lacks the requisite skills to play AFL. It's a simple scenario - he kicks a goal from 20 metres directly in front, we win. He didn't. Furthermore, I knew he wouldn't, because he can't kick.
Overall, we should all be very pleased with our team. Our newbies, in Poulter and McCreery are already beauties, and I was rather impressed with Wilson as well. Adams played like our captain in waiting. Father time is fast catching up with Pendles and especially Sidey.
As long as we keep playing with the same endeavour and show faith in a couple more youngsters, from Murphy, Bianco , Kelly and Macrae, we should set our team up for a much better season next year.

As a punishment to myself for over indulging during the game yesterday and upsetting she who must be obeyed I made myself watch the game over again
Here’s what I noticed through not so blurred vision
We stopped scoring in the first term within 2 minutes of Adams leaving having his knee strapped again
Don’t know why but moving the chess pieces around we seemed to become defensive minded again
Pendles Mayne and Sidey didn’t have a single play in from a mark all day. Each time they got the ball they immediately stopped and looked around mostly sideways or backwards. It always stopped any forward momentum we had been building
Callum Brown is the worst kick in our team by a long way
The more I see IQ Noble and Moore play together the more I like it. All 3 look to take the game on. Yes they make some errors but there errors in trying to be positive at least
Crisp is a mr fixit for us just fills any need we have
Poulter looks composed and has impressive hands
McCreery expends loads of energy without much return yet. When he gets smarter he will be a real asset
JDG looks uninterested to often. He’s like a petulant child when he isn’t the first option when we kick it forward
Cameron continues to improve with each outing
Pendles looks like a man bereft of confidence from having to carry the side for far to long
Sidey played in his preferred roles as a outisde mid or small forward. He offered nothing positive to the team. He looks cooked at this level
Daicos has time and skill just needs more support
Adams played like a man who wanted to impact every contest physically and clear a path of destruction. He’s the spiritual leader of this team and should be captain
Grundy game was mixed. Brilliant early not much in Q’s 2&3 and came alive again late. He tries hard I wonder if he tries to hard at times
Roughead stabilised our defence again
Overall we had more than enough opportunities to win the game but we panicked or miscued when we had our chances
4 points we should have banked but didn’t
Our average losing margin is 15 points the 3rd best of any team
We keep it close but can’t get the chocolates
On to next week

Agreed mate you are on money Sidey seems he is either passed it or really does not care much.qldmagpie67 wrote:As a punishment to myself for over indulging during the game yesterday and upsetting she who must be obeyed I made myself watch the game over again

In fairness to Cam, he says at the end of his post “ by all means, drop him “mudlark wrote:Come on Cam. He may "Crack in",but he continually gets caught with the ball.He has no footy smarts and has no idea how to keep the flow of the game going.Continually looks backward rather than looking to see "How cn I get the ball to someone forward"? Can't kick over a jam jar and his decision making was on full show in the final qtr, where he could have TWICE won the game for us, first, missing a soda of a set shot from 25mtrs and then gathering the ball 35 mtrs out running into an open goal, no pressure and the SHORT passes to Miochec with 2 gorillas hanging off him.No idea and shouldn't be in the team and should be delisted along with Josh Thomas.Cam wrote:All of the people saying Callum is the 'worst' of anything have the memories of seagulls, I say that respectfully rather than saying 'you can't have only been watching AFL for a short time", which I know ain't true either.
Sure the kid doesn't look up to true AFL standard, and his missed goals hurt, but the hyberbole is a bit much. He cracks in week in week out, and his best is a long way from his worst, which is telling, and separates to good players from the strugglers.
I've seen WAY worse kicks over the journey, and WAY worse players [and so have you if you are honest] so let's just keep A LITTLE perspective and stop the screaming hysterics eh? Drop him by all means, but sheesh.
F W I W , I have a similar attitude to Cam on this. It’s like Brown is being blamed because the club picked him to play. I guarantee he knows he’s got flaws but he turns up and does his best. It’s actually not his fault if his best doesn’t meet people’s expectations. That’s sport, there’s the best players and then there’s the rest. I’ve coached juniors and been around junior footy clubs for many years, so I’m thankful that I have a healthy respect for anyone who goes out there and cops the knocks, the bumps and the knees in the back for the greater good.
To be honest, I think it’s more important to be a class act than a class footballer. Some of the rants are genuinely over the top and they say more about the poster than the player but as they say, that’s just my humble opinion.
