I understand what everyone is saying about getting up for the Anzac day match - BUT -
1. They couldn't get up for the 2003 GF,
2. They couldn't get up for the Tigers match in round 1,
3. They couldn't get up for the Dockers match,
4. They couldn't get up for Brisbane,

What makes anyone think they will be able to get up for Anzac Day ??

I think maybe players start working up the flanks (and maybe are instructed to) out of fear of opposition rebound when they are getting caned off half-forward. But this is pissweak policy. It's better to be thrashed having a proactive go at attacking risk-taking footy than dumbly trying to minimize the damage which gives you no show at all, since as you say there's too much time for them to clog up the forward lines.
If the team really has a red hot go at risk-taking footy even if it costs extra goals in rebound, the'll have a lot more respect from the supporters and will have a chance of eventually clicking as an attacking footy side, even if it takes a few weeks.
So yes they should be kicking it right down the guts at least a good portion of the time - but I'm afraid MM doesn't have that instruction in his manual, or the players are not hearing it.
When you start playing out of fear of failure instead of attack at all cost, then failure is what you will get.

Actually I doubt it would even cost more goals overall. Reason: if you attack quickly and directly, opposition doesn't have time to flood. Once flooded, their forward line is totally open due to all players being in *our* forward line, so if a rebound happens they have far better odds of goaling.
If there's a rebound from our non-flooded forward line, then at least their forward line is "normal" ie not in a Pagan's paddock situation, so we have a better chance of defending. So that suggests that attacking is the best form of defense even against a rebound.

JLC Essendon is overrated, and so are we. Lets hope it pisses down rain and we are hungry for that ball.

We are not over rated as everyone thinks we are crap....lol

As long as we are switched on we should go very close. If someone in the forward line can step up and kick some goals and convert the pressure that i expect us to create we will win.

I expect it to be similar to Adelaide StKilda. Adelaide dominated the midfield clearances but did not have a forward to convert their goals. StKilda goes up forward once and Gehrig converts. That was the story of the game.

The Torres bounce is officially dead. You are walking alone now Fernando.

It is hard to see us getting over the line as our offensive scoring is very low, with a season average of 73.5 points per game. We will have to lift that by at least five goals and unfortunately with some of our senior players such as woewodin, licuria and obree not getting enough and when they do it is delivered too slow into the forward line.

I really hope McGough gets a game. Start Richards in the ruck and have Josh lingering around in the forward line for a good part of the game. I hope MM was joking when he said there would not be many changes for this clash, as everyone in the posts are pleading for them.

I am pretty confident we can get over the Dons IF our midfielders become more accountable for their men. Also if they do the very BASIC long kick into the 50. There is no point lobbing it into a crowded corridor before hitting 50.

Cheesey needs to get a haircut and start tackling and putting his body on the line. I saw him pull out at least 3 times against the Dockers and once he even turned to argue with the umpire as his man ran away!!

I am sure he has been given a rocket along with Licca and Woey. If they lift, we can win.

Very true. Any team with Hird & lloyd in it are abosoulte legonds in the medias eyes! :?

If McGough isn't played there is some-thing very wrong!

As for the weather, PLEASE LET IT RAIN!! :P We are one of the best in the comp in the wet! And the Dons are bad outside the comfort of Telstra.

Wait a minute. No Buckley, possibly no burns. Where the hell are the strong bodies in the midfield to help in the rain? Keep it fine please!
My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

You know what I meant!

As we all know we aren't in form so personally i'm not that confident of victory as are many others, so the rain will help us make it a scrappy game hopefully bringing the margin closer, maybe enough where we could pinch a win... Hopefully.
