This is a myth, we had to make room to cover the upgrades we made last year to 2 key players and Grundy. There is no pot of gold waiting for a free agent this year, our cap is full.Magpietothemax wrote:From the salary cap fiasco/disaster we saw play out late last year, it is clear why we dont have a key forward. We simply were unable to afford one.Magpies035 wrote:It’s just typical Collingwood under Buckley. We build hope. Show positive signs but then let ourselves down.
Our decision making going forward is terrible. We need to lower our eyes and try to hit a target. Stop bombing the ball and hope someone marks it.
For all our faults over the years we still don’t have a genuine forward. All tops sides have 1-3. We don’t that deplorable
Also why don’t we play more kids.
Too many passengers
Just see 2021 as a transition year
We are where we are, and cannot change this overnight. Salary cap space has now been achieved by hiving off major talent (Stepho, Adz), and it will take time to make use of this.
Post Match. Pies pipped in thriller. All comments, please.

Terrible way to lose. The playing group showed no composure in the last few minutes.
Feels self-inflicted though, and we've seen this crap before. Felt very reminiscent of the 2018 Grand Final. Burst out of the blocks with a decent lead until the opposition grinds us down and gradually comes back before edging us at the end.
Grundy was good, but our midfield demonstrates why it's overrated yet again. It's inexcusable we can't make the most of having one of the best rucks in the competition.
Defence is the reason why we'll always be in the contest even if our midfield isn't producing the goods. It happened in round 1 and was repeated tonight.
The match committee needs to be ruthless ahead of next week's game against GWS. Poor games from C. Brown, WHE and Thomas tonight.
The nature of the loss stings. Will take a bit of time to fully process.

I rely on AFL Tables. Just went through all the games since 2012 and typed them out as I went.

I dont think you can put it all on Bucks tonight, last week, De Goey and WHE plus Mihocheck, had good games, this week poor games from all 3, who saw that coming, especially De Goey. ?? You cant blame the Coach for every damn thing, these are highly paid professional footballers, who should KNOW how to run a game out, they should by now, know how to make shit happen, and grind out a win. Some of our guys just played dumb in that game, they should know better. Granted its time to bite the bullet, and drop a few, WHE, Thomas, Magden, bring in 3 kids, freshen the team up a bit, like Swans have, nothing like youthful enthusiasm. We should, one hopes, be in a foul mood against the GWS, just re load and come out firing, its all we can do now, this game is past, now look ahead.

Come on mate. This is revisionism at its finest. You have forgotten the common phrase "Malthouse has no plan B." This was used for 10 years.Sensei Grundy wrote:With Malthouse when we played crap he was trying new things and he blooded new talent.
As for blooding new talent, Ben Kinnear was on the list for 7 years before winning the best and fairest for Lalor the year after he pulled the pin.
And um, Tarkyn Lockyer, Cheesy O'Bree and his helicopter kicks say "Hi!" We were all calling for Malthouse's head in 2009.
In fact if the succession plan hadn't been announced, 2010 may never have happened because after it was we actually recruited Luke Ball and Darren Jolly after years of bullshit recruits like Chad Rintoul and Chad Morrison. Slag Bucks all you like but ffs don't rewrite Malthouse into being something that he wasn't.

Before tonight, the last time it happened to us was against Footscray (at the Western Oval) in 1984. What was Gubby Allan thinking?

Mostly agreed but I thought Thomas did OK as did Callum Brown in bits: that miss masked some otherwise decent play but I don’t think he’s in our best 22. WHE had a brilliant 2018 but is nowhere near that now. We need some pace where we just don’t break lines but apply pressure. Players who can kick the friggin ball accurately wouldn’t hurt either.Jezza wrote:Terrible way to lose. The playing group showed no composure in the last few minutes.

Mihocek despite his 2 goals was missing for a fair bit of the game and I thought Noble again did very well.
What a disappointing end to the match. I liked ur comment about self inflicted. Indeed our turnovers and unforced errors are cases of self crucifixion....well it is Good Friday.

Love Checkers, but there were four occasions tonight where he directly missed a target in the forward 50. Proved costly in the end.
