its so easy to say "its only 4 rounds in" but ive seen most of all the other games played this year on fox and we certainly have A LOT of work to do. teams like saint kilda and even the dockers are full of confidence and when they come up against the pies they see it as "their" final and seem to be able to rise to the occasion and we look disinterested and very scared from what has occured to us in the last 2 years. as i heard on the call today, dennis cometti said he thinks we have gone backwards and i tend to agree with him. no intensity, no forward line , even when taz has been in the team it hasnt been great and now with injuries and the pressure building no relief looks in sight. everyone is out to nail us. lets just hope we can "pinch" a win from some where and ride the storm until we can get our SH*T together. C'MON PIES PROVE ME WRONG, im in 4 the long haul but i get the feeling this year is gonna be long.

Add the swans to that, they have been electric this year and they still couldnt beat the lions, so how do we expect to at this stage?

Quite frankly, the only loss that has been surprising was to Richmond. We were always gonna struggle against the lions at the gabba and with the dockers without some key players. So realistically, we have dropped one gettable game.

NOTE: i believe every game is winnable, i dont want 10 posts flaming me saying that i shouldnt have said the lions and dockers game werent winnable, but i am just trying to find some positives out of our current shambles of a season

I agree with you PiesFan in that we weren't going to win in Brisbane but i do believe we should have won today even without Tarrant and Buckley. We have to be 3-4 after round 7 if we are going to get top 4 this year. We need a huge lift and it all starts against Essendon on Anzac Day!

I hope we can be 6-6 at round 12 again, thats winning 5 of our next 8 which is against the bombers, port, carlton, saints, crows, roos, eagles and demons

If we cant beat 5 of those teams, well honestly we dont deserve to finish high up the ladder

7 goals on a ground completely unaffected by the weather. This should say it all really. The last time I saw this kind of football was five years ago.

My player review

D. King -Actually wasn't bad for the limited time he was on the ground took a nice mark and ran with the ball and then made position again , O'Bree should review how this guy plays on tape during the week.

S. Prestigiacomo -Presti , what's happened to you? This season you've looked slow and just have no timing with your spoiling.

S. Wakelin -Pretty good effort playing a week after you fracture your cheekbone , valiant.

D. Swan-Swan's alright a goer , but he was put on a danger forward in Medhurst to start off and just wasn't good enough . Handy at best

J. Cloke-Being hidden because he's not up to it.

B. Johnson -Runs creates options and wants the ball . Pies best player and can hold his head high

A. Didak-Overrated softcock , plays as a forward but never puts himself in any dangerous positions , can't crumb properly , not enough leg speed or stamina to play in the midfield.

S. Burns-Seemed to injure himself slightly , had a go , gave an option up forward but it was not the Burns we've come to know. Got flogged in the midfield.

S. Woewodin -How soft is Woewodin? Freo blokes just brushed him off like he was a 3 year old girl. Slow , Kicking was terrible and over celebrated his goal as per usual.

M. Lokan -Meh.

A. Rocca-Not undefeated as captain anymore Anthony.
Missed 2 absolute sitters , looked very unfit and carried on too much.
Uninspiring leadership.

A. Williams -Is he a worse footballer than Jason Wild?
Insipid , pathetic , weak , embarrassing , stupid , dud footballer.

B. Holland -Didn't see the stats but he did OK on Bell I thought.
Still gets under the ball when he kicks it and doesn't hit the packs hard enough.

J. Clement-Jimmy Clement has been a bit NQR this season , never terrible but just not particularly good either.

J. Fraser-He played an OK game gave an option and tried his best in the ruck.
But it isn't good enough ,the 2 guys who went behind him at 2 and 4 played today and are far more accomplished footballers. He's upper body is still too small and he fails to take enough contested marks for somebody his size also pushed off the ball too easily.

P. Licuria-Lica's having a dog of a season so far , takes him years to get rid of it and more often than not turns it over , although it's not like he's getting a whole lotta ball. Possibly carrying calf injury.

S. O'Bree- Slow , atrocious disposal, fumbly hands , refuses to run with the ball or his opponent . Willi beckons he's being majorly exposed.

G. Richards-A tryer gives a good contest in the ruck , still developing.

R. Cole-Played his best game for the season , actually showed some confidence and dash in the second half and didn't get stage fright.
He's playing infront of a big crowd next week , I worry about him.

R. Lonie-Tagged Pavlich did OK. Sad watching 2 190cm blokes who can sprint and kick the ball a mile , one's soft and doesn't get much ball the other isn't and does.

R. Shaw-Scared , fumbly hands, did have his moments , but generally he's just not up to it.

L. Mullins -OK first game disposes of it well , but is a one paced midfielder which we've got in abundance

I really hope Malthouse isn't heading for T-shirt Tommy's fate ... it would be a HUGE mistake ... but I fear we might have a caretaker coach before this season is out.

DON'T DO IT, COLLINGWOOD ... it was a mistake in 1982 ... and it would be a mistake now.

MM stuffed up with his post-match sarcasm last September ... but he MUST be forgiven ... He's the best thing that's happened to Collingwood since Buckley was recruited ... and he must be given every opportunity to achieve what Hafey would have achieved if he hadn't been so stupidly scapegoated.
yeah, I could do without 1982 again...I fear we may rip ourselves apart, but hope we can get it together. when hope comes before expectation, you are in trouble. We are.

True we are in similar pos to last couple of years, but you get the feeling the cup is half empty this year, was half full on 02 and 03 at this stage.
Just seems to be a lack of spirit at presence, if a team like Sydney lost a few you'd be expecting their spirit to determinedly drag them out of it like woods last year, but just don't feel that spirit this year. Celebrating goals while way behind is what bottom teams do coz there's nothing else to celebrate.
Im afraid Williams might be one of those in-between players like Wilde or Collingwood Demitrio or Patterson, star at Willo but not up to AFL standard.
Need some players with real character brought in - I'd try McGough and Shack. Ominous signs for Kinnear, overlooked despite a solid willi showing, may be off MM's pet list. Will probaly get another go in next weeks might be his last chance and not an easy task to play well in the team as it is now. If he can play well he would have earned it, but just doesn't have much presence or fire which is what is required. If we go say 2 and 6 then at least can convert to a devt year and leave young players like Walker and C2 in to devt their games to AFL level for next season - that's if MM doesn't cricify them with random shuffling forward and back and off and on the bench.Interesting what Molloy said about Cloke, that other teams have worked him out - in which case he has to be dropped. Develop him as a forward in willi not in the big time, which will just destroy what's left of his confidence. it's folly to try to play him as AFL forward until he can dominate as a forward at willi which he's never done. once again not rocket science.

Things are NOT looking good at all. We cannot hit targets, we cannot tackle, we cannot man up! Some players need to pull their fingers out - fast!

Jason Cloke - Why Oh Why do you continue to play him forward MM? He is a natural backman. Get him backto 2002 form as a loose man across half back.

Ryan Lonie - Looked his best for the years so far - and thats saying some-thing!

Rhyce Shaw - He looked more composed then usurall today. Still didn't do enough.

Alan Didak - Time for a spell at Willi. Low on confidence and can't buy a kick.

Shane Woewodin - Doesn't go in hard enough, dosen't do enough 1%ers & celebrates like we've won the GF after he's kicked a goal when we're 5 points down.

Shane O'Bree - Little chippy kicks all the time. Doesn't seem to want to run & chase

Matthew Lokan - Deserves another chance as MM didn't play him up forward all that much. When he was on he didn't do much.

Andrew Williams - Should be dropped but can't because of injurys.

Paul Licuria - What happend to 2 Copelands? Not getting any-where near enough of the ball.

We are in very hot water. The season could slip away from us if we don't win in rounds 5 or 6. I'm surprised the media hasn't picked up on this yet. Why can't targets hit Rocca's cheast? Why not play Fraser down there? Why was Richards used sparingly? Why don't 3/4 of the players have the eye of the tiger? Why isn't McGough being used?

It was hard without Taz & Bucks but they should have put in a bit more.

OK: Fraser, Clement, Cole, Burns, Mullins, King.

Very Good (Thank God For): Ben Johnson - Where would we be without him. 2004 Copeland Medalist.

Time for: Cam Cloke, Shack, Leonard (when fit), Morrison, McGough, B.Shaw.

Last Chance: Cloke, Woewodin, Didak, Lonie.

Drop: O'Bree, Williams, Shaw.

On Warning: Licuria, Lokan

Positive Note: Mullins & King: Mullins was classy, won the ball & hit targets. King gave him all & did a couple of nice things. Not overawed.

Please Collingwood, not another effort like that.

from today's "age":

'Malthouse ... insisted there would be no radical selection changes and the 22 to play Essendon next Sunday would not be "vastly different, if different at all, from this week"'

oh dear ...

my question is - where is the passion? sure, we've got a number of physically injured players, but ALL of them seem dispirited and lacklustre. fumbling, inaccurate, slow. o'bree specifically. if they manage to pick up the ball, they drop it. if they kick it, the accuracy is way off. and if they have to run, forget it. and as for tackling ... i'm sure that they have the skills, young players and old, they just need revving up. big time. there's just no spark at all.
