Chelsea are set to appoint Thomas Tuchel as their new manager after the ruthless dismissal of Frank Lampard, who was sacked less than 24 hours after beating Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The sensitivity over firing one of the greatest players in Chelseaโs history was reflected by Roman Abramovich, the clubโs owner, taking the unprecedented step of releasing a statement after deciding to relieve Lampard of his duties. Abramovich was regretful in tone, speaking of his โexcellent personal relationshipโ with the 42-year-old and calling him an important icon, but the Russian was also pragmatic, saying that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy felt that a managerial change was required โunder current circumstancesโ.

Very sad day for the club. Never easy to part ways with a club legend in these circumstances.
Despite our recent form slump, I think the club is in better shape going forward than when Frank first became head coach.
The positives of Frank's coaching tenure:
- Several academy players made big strides under him (e.g. Mount, Abraham, James, CHO, Gilmour).
- Helped navigate the club through a tough period after losing Hazard and having a transfer embargo which handicapped it's ability to rebuild quickly.
- Finished top 4 last year despite having a transfer embargo, and made the FA Cup Final. A real shame we couldn't prevail in the final.
- The quality of the playing squad has improved, and set the foundations for his successor to move it forward in the right direction. It's a shame that he couldn't get them firing recently.
Absolutely adore Frank. One of my favourite Chelsea figures and his legacy at the club will never be diminished.
I really hope that Frank continues gaining more experience in the managerial craft and this experience doesn't deter him. I think he has all the hallmarks to be a great manager, and with more experience and wisdom down the line, I wouldn't be shocked to see him come back one day even if it's raw right now.
Thank you for everything, legend! Gone, but never forgotten!

2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the second leg. Tuchel remains unbeaten as coach and we've only conceded 2 goals in 13 games in all competitions.
Chelsea reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in seven years with a 3-0 aggregate win over Atletico Madrid.
