How did you draw that conclusion when their "ins" this week were Brown, Lynch and Power.

I would have thought that was one of the stroner teams they could field (Keating missing).

What they do is nearly undefendable, to stop it you need your midfield to play defensive the whole time. The only way to negate them is to have a very superior ruckman, even then they have others contest the ruck duels. They basically all run and everyone punches it forward. You can't play a loose man near the pack because it could go the other side.

The swans have beaten them because the bears they don't get very fired up to play them but also because they play keepings off for long periods of time to stifle the run on possibilities from stoppages. Stopping the flow and spreading your players means that the bears can't play in groups of 3, 4 or 5.

Don't forget we were the #1 stoppages team last year, just not against the bears i guess.

I think we erred not by getting rid of Rupert, Molloy or Richardson... but maybe Steinfort and Freeborn who were excellent defensive midfielders. Last night i thought we played in singles, not in twos or threes. When we catch up our fitness then our numbers will swarm in the 2nd half of the year.

I think Matthews is gambling by getting more wins now, while his machine is healthy because he knows it may break down again in the 2nd half. To beat them, we must find an answer for Akermouthis.
Get back on top.

Caracella is a softc***.

He looks good playing in that team because he can run ahead of the play and does not attract much attention.

Not as bad as some have said i don't think.hmm i dunno will lynch get rubbed out? It seems unfair that he put Wakes out for the rest of the game without escaping penalty.

Where is Licuria? He has been nowhere first three rounds nothing on last year.

Bucks...hasn't been up to his lofty heights so far.

Scotty Burns excellent been our best last two rounds.

Wakelin was all over Brown until he got king hit.

Swan was very very impressive.

Should Cloke have played in front of Lynch's lead? I think yes.

We will be back.

To whoever referred to us as last year's Carlton, take a long hard look at yourself.

I have said it before (not here) and I will say it again........no matter what sport, if a player is injured due to the deliberate actions from someone from the opposition and has to leave the field for the rest of the game, then the other player reponsible for this should also have to leave the field and not be able to return for the rest of the game.

Why should one team be disadvantaged and have their interchange affected and the other team be able to carry on as normal ? fairs fair.

We must follow their model.

Post by sq3 »

To be a top string side we must follow their model.

Midfielders and Back line players that -
1. Can run all day at half pace with bursts when required,
2. Have good foot skills over 25 - 50 metres.

Bux and Burnsey are our only 2 that fit that picture - it may be time bring Woey into the midfield and Lonie to the wing.

OB can't run and Lica can't kick to save himself.

MM will need to bring in Bo and play him.

Didak has to learn to run all game and all the forwards have to chase their man up the ground.

At the moment we are not within 7 goals of the Lions and until we change the style of play we will not get any closer.

This year we need to bring along C2 and Billy (who has the ability to be better than J.Brown and has courage to burn).

MCG should also be brought in as we don't have the pace we need the guys who can get the ball (and Heath is gone). MCG can get it and we need to train the outriders - Bux already can do this but he is usually the one trying to get the ball.

All is not lost but MM needs to be willing to change his game plan a little bit.

C1 would be worth a run on the wing as he can run for long periods and just push the ball forward. he has to get closer to the play.

C2 the fits in nicely as we are not then Taz and Pebbles focussed in attack as they were last night.

Lynch is as dirty as they come. A wolf in sheeps clothing.

Imagine the outcry if that was Jason Cloke, Holland or Rocca.

Well we lost which wasn't unexpected at all. But not 10 goals!
Others have made comment on our lack of depth atm- injuries, form, age recruiting, fitness. As a result we have no plan B to cover positional losses eg Rocca/Taz or Wakes/Presti. It would seem we have to rely on the usuals to carry us this season. There is not enough time this year to expect the next gen to stand up.
The bully bears were to physically imposing, brushing away futile attempts to tackle. Our midfield is non existant except for Burns, this is our strength. Second to the ball, refusal to play in front, refusal to contest the body (usually just back off and play the % - think Woewodin), lack of faith in each other. Fitness and skill can be improved. But the other intangibles that make a side gel I'm not too sure they've got together. How many times did you see Collingwood win possession through weight of numbers ie run hard to assist. I hope that MM has a plan. If you do please TELL ME! lol

The first 1/2 opf the game was great. The boys followed up they went for the ball,BUT on comes white haired Akermanis, makes a mockery of our guys and they fall apart at the seams.
I watch about 5 mins into the second 1/2,got the scores from Sky News that Bris had won by 10 goals (thanks Mike Sheahan)and I went tio bed.
What a waste of skills.Did the boys just lay down and play dead.
This wasnt a replay of last years G.F. it was a bunch of reserves playing against a bunch that were determined to win.
If the guys keep playing like the way they did last night,THEY will win the wooden spoon this year.Rich beat us by 30 odd and Bris beat us by 60 whose next to hand out a belting.

Correct about Caracella, but we played Lonie on him the last 4 times and still not learnt. Caracella doesnt chase, so when Lonie looks for kicks, caracella waits for the easy goal.

Sq3

Drop ben Johnson?? Our best running defender for the last 2 years? The only player not scared of physical contact? Maybe had someone called him in he would have spoiled, basic fundamentals of our game are non existent. But we will drop him? And bring in who? With Wakes and Taz out as well. You would drop 12 others before Ben Johnson.

What are we gonna do when Buckley and Burns leave?????

I hate to say it, but our team is looking like Carlton's was last year. A bunch of young, inexperienced kids who cop a thrashing.

Our finals dreams this year are kapoot! We need to RECRUIT big time next year! And not just these young kids.....

Lynch should get 2 weeks at least! What a fkn dickhead! I hate him!!!!!! We lost the 2002 grand final coz we lost Cloke to the same stupid decision!!!!!!!!! If he was there, we would of won!

And that Jonathan Brown thinks he is top s**t. He basically waltzes around the ground and when he gets a mark or a kick he puffs out his chest like he is their god! What a wanker!!!!!

And what about that idiot Leppitsch! He is definately winning an oscar this year! He was barely touched, yet he threw his body like he'd been pushed and was granted a free kick! It was 10 times worse then that stupid ad for Origin Energy where that guy acts like Buckley ran into him and tripped him over, even though Bucks was like 5 metres away!!!!!!!

I'm so mad! I hate umpires! I hate Brisbane! I hate Lynch, Akermanis, Voss, Brown, and Leppitsch! I hate Leigh Matthews! I hate everything!

Congrats to O'Bree and Burns though, you guys played great. And also to Richards, Lokan and Swan who also played great.

Love always, Alyssa xoxo
Terrific post! Particuarly this part :

We got rid and lost a few players last year and who did we recruit..... young kids, that's who! We have no players to stand up coz all our players are basically kids!

That is very true. We have no depth after losing Betheras, Molloy, Richardson & Freeborn and we can't expect guys like Nixon to be world beaters 1st up.
Thanks! :)
I wish Jarrod Molloy never left! He would of kept the ball in our 50 with his toughness! He was never afraid to put his body on the line and charge for the ball. And he even kicked goals for us as well as keeping other players quiet!

COME OUT OF RETIREMENT JARROD! COLLINGWOOD NEED YOU! (I need you more though :D)

We need to build up our team structure again over the next few years. What I don't get is that in 2002 we had a perfect side. We built up our team over the years and had the no-name, amazing backline and stuff. Yet, when we lost the grand final it's like Mick wiped the slate clean to start up all over again!!! Matthews went that one step further and won those premierships, and even now they have the same players and have such a strong team line up. Malthouse never went the full way. We had the perfect team, but then he made it so we had to start from scratch again.

It'll take a few years till those young kids are great enough for us to be champions.

What I want to know is who is going to step up this year? Who is going to be the next Buckley? Who is going to kick goals as fantastically as our Macedonian Marvel? Who is going to become a strong ruckman? Who is going to be in the absolute fantastic backline that we definately need? We need these kids to play to their full potential! Sadly, the answers to those questions wont be revealed for a while though :(

Love always, Alyssa xoxo

come on guys, you all sound like richmond supporters, eating your own!

Its only round 3. We will improve. I never expected us to win this one, infact I tipped us to lose by 46 points, we are far from our best at this stage. We will get better and we WILL play finals this year.

What i don't understand is,why can't the pies help each other out?basically every time there was a contest,i saw at least 3 lions players to 1 pie player!!. Of course they are going to win the ball every time, there are more of them at the ball!!. They help each other out.

*The 1st and 2nd quarters were good, pity something happened at half time*.

There was some players who could hold there heads up. They have been named already. Come on collingwood, just need to win to get your confidence up.

btw, lisey i agree with ya. He may have had his critics but when molly usually played,u could see the players round him would lift.
