Post Match. Pies thumped by Cats. All comments, please.

100% left everything in Perth. That was a great win, I enjoyed it and it will be talked about for years. But I wonder, was it as much of the weagles were poor and hadn’t been playing great footy for a while, than it was our effort And the cats game was that much close to the real pies? Academic now really. Can only hope that we improve over the off season and can come back next year (hopefully post COVID) with a whole new football club.
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

Call me old fashioned but to me that sounds like those players who gave up hope should never play for Collingwood ever again. That is not the fault of the coach. Need players who never ever give up on a game.BazBoy wrote:“It looked like the players gave up hope”. was Bucks opinion during post game interview

OK agree to disagree. I worked as a social worker all my life and tried my utmost at all times to counsel and assist suicidal clients. Did all I could in every single case. However a few suicided. Are you saying that it was my fault that they lost hope in living? The Boy Who Cried Wolf wrote:It actually is the coaches fault if the players lose hope.

At the game last night I thought it can’t be this bad on TV so I’ll watch it again and see
Well it’s actually worse
I watched training the other night and felt so confident going into this game and we got served up this.
We seemed completely devoid of energy from the beginning
I wonder if the longest road trip in footy and a shorter turn around had a effect ?
Not a excuse but maybe it’s a factor
If the club doesn’t come and out and tell us Grundy played injured we have made a million dollar mistake he seemed totally. He currently isn’t worth half that and we need a specialist ruck coach he has no vision to our open players he just constantly drops the ball in the same square meter of space time and again it’s so predictable. If he doesn’t change we are screwed for years to come 6 to be correct
I don t think we had a player win there battle with a opposition player across the night
Too many times I saw players with hands on hip or stop chasing when a cats player got a couple steps ahead
We looked disinterested very early
I would question our mental toughness massively and our leadership no one bar Adams seemed to be cranky during the game when things were going to shit
You can lose and that happens but this is deeper than just losing it’s the manner is which we played and what we showed
For mine not enough players seemed embarrassed after this game some seemed happy it was over
Well 2020 goodbye let’s hope 2021 is better

Yes Queensland. That is what I thought. A loss like that runs very deep. If we had gone down with a fight, that would have been ok, especially after that magnificent victory last week. I did not see a total capitulation like that coming. i had a feeling we would lose, but never thought it would be such an apparent lack of effort and will. I think it must have had something to do with how we prepared mentally, both for the West Coast game and then this one. For those who want to put forward the rigours of the game, and this cursed covid season as reasons for this performance, I can only say that really explains nothing. No other finalists experienced such a mental collapse. I hope that our club does not take that approach, and does not simply move on without analysing how we prepared for this game, why were the players in this mental space when the game started. Surely we can draw lessons from this horrible experience. This is professional sport. Lots of money is spent on sports psychology and mental preparation, just like rehabilitation processes, injury management etc. We had just come off a week's rest at the end of the home and away season. The game against West Coast should not have meant that we were physically incapable of putting up any resistance against the Cats. Of course our team has to take responsibility for this embarrassing effort, but I think the entire club needs to as well. The nature of this loss shocked me and suggested that something is deeply amiss.
Yes, glad to say goodbye to 2020, and let's indeed hope 2021 is better.

Are you sure it’s not that you simply want it to be the coaches fault ?
I can’t imagine any coach, even Bucks, preaching to throw the towel in because we’re 6 goals down at half time in an elimination final.
That’s just not how it works in the real world.

Absolutely. he has magic about him.Cruisinwithdids wrote:One good thing with Stevo was the shot for goal he did get was an absolute gun kick. Flushed it from 50 outside the boundary, just to remind us of his skill. No way am I giving up on him, with an uninterrupted year following a good pre season, he can kick 40+ goals if used as a forward permanently.

I agree. I think Bucks should accept his share of responsibility as well. The game was still fightable at quarter time. but our second quarter was gut wrenchingly bad. It is part of his task to develop team energy and motivation. All the best coaches do that. The Boy Who Cried Wolf wrote:Yes I'm sure.
I never suggested he was 'preaching' to the players to throw in the towel.
It's part of his job to lift and motivate his players regardless of the circumstances. It's actually his job - real world stuff.

What is Bucks supposed to do, don his old footy gear and get out there and kick the faaarking ball for them ? Bucks never chucked in a game in his life, and long career, far far from it, he fought to the last bell rang, every damn game, even one sided ones. The players lost hope cos they were mentally fatigued and physically stuffed, plain as day, whereas the week before they won one of the truly great Collingwood Finals wins. NO coach could have got us over the line last night, we were rooted, stuffed, exhusted, we left it all back in WA, we had nothing more left too give.Plus the Cats were fired up, over media shit they copped, 4 finals wins in 16 finals, Sellwood said they were on a misssion to atone, they would have beaten the Tigers last night, playing like that.

I’ve been working my arse off in the last few months with shift work, overtime, long days and weekends. I’m really tired, exhausted and verging on delirious. I had this bad dream that we got smashed by friggin’ Geelong last night. Who’d a thunk
