In terms of forwards, Moore probably ranks last in this group. But as a KP player, he is, right now, the best of that group. Daniher and Patton are an unknown with their current injuries woes.

Moore was a skinny inexperienced kid when he last played forward - so that benchmark of performance is unsound, as to his potential today.

he cant kick for goal. its proven and not worth revisiting.

Also, his best skill is reading the play and running forward (as opposed to wheeling).

playing him forward would expose his weaknesses and deprive us of one of the best defenders in the game.

why??????????

Thoughts about Darcy Moore

Post by orie »

Let me say firstly that it's true that , he has come a long way this year as acknowledged by the All Australian award.
However is it just me that rues his kicking disposal?
It often is errant and comes back to haunt him.
I don't know why he takes the kick outs most of the time. I know Quaynor is young and inexperienced but his disposal is mostly spot on.
What are other people's thoughts?

This is something that has been bugging me for awhile.

Add Maynard to the banned kick-in list.

We do not have a kick-in plan anyway so bombing is all we have.

Another Buckley failure.

He was recruited as a forward.
Decent big forwards are the most difficult to find.
Far easier to get a back than a forward.
Move him next season to the forward line or ruck

Originally I wanted to play Moore forward, but he's done so well in defense it would be silly to move him now.

As for Sidebottom, imo its a no brainier to move him to a permanent fwd but it's doubtful that will ever happen under Bucks watch.

Kicking in for distance is probably the hardest kick to execute to advantage. The opposition has set up and a player is given the responsibility of hitting a team mate on the chest 50 / 60 metres away.
I have no problem with Maynard or Moore kicking for distance and ultimately achieving a 50 / 50 contest close to the wing.
If the plan is to go short first, then as of next season, I would be happy to see Quaynor be given more responsibility.
The thing to remember is that kicking plans will likely change depending on the state of the game, which is part of the reason why different players now take the kick out.
There’s a player on the outer at Brisbane, Alex Witherdon, who was the best kick out I had seen from the last couple years. Always got the job and “ never “ missed a target. Having said that, he obviously has a few other areas he needs to work on at the moment.
Gary Player “ the harder I practice, the luckier I get “
