^Yes, never again underestimate just how disenfranchised, illiberal and dis-enlightened much of the US has become.

Take a look at this propaganda piece against Warren by a supposed lifelong Democrat centrist who was an Obama treasury advisor:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/opin ... -plan.html

Some of the criticism is warranted, but the article pretty much revives every outdated Republican trope under the sun to stave off serious reform.

The current situation is reminisce of the great stories of falling empires, where sheer power becomes conflated with reason and righteousness, and nationalist cliches and clown acts crowd out serious efforts to right the ship. The problem in this case is that the world economy is getting dragged down with it.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Senator Lindsey Graham is the latest convert to the "head-in-the sand" approach to Americas National Security crisis I mentioned in the opening post!

The result for the Kentucky Governorship election is in and worryingly for Trump, Bevin’s defeat will set off alarm bells among wavering Republicans who are calculating whether or not they can risk going against Trump and supporting impeachment without being punished for it at the ballot box.

What do you mean?
The last time I had a political bet (10-1 that Abbott would be P.M during the 2016 election) I won.
Intead of winnings due to me I recieved a hay-maker to the back of the head! I did get to rub the badly broken nose of a bad Right-wing poet (and occasional Quadrant contributor) in everything he ever wrote about the good old days when men were men and the woman were silent, so all in all i'm not complaining!

If you ever see that arse-wipe Patrick MacCauley at one of your poetry-night thingy's tell I him says Hello!

I’m referring to my own catastrophic Trump-related wager with Stui, of course! :P

For what it’s worth, I think his third prediction (Ivanka being VP) is ridiculous and his second (Trump winning again in 2020) is probably 50/50 at this point. But it’s the first step in the trifecta, the Republicans voting down impeachment proceedings in the Senate, that I think is the one where you’re probably most likely to come unstuck. I could be wrong, but I suspect you give the idea of “moderate” Republicans way too much credit.

David is referring to the bet I had with him way back when they were doing Republican pre-selection and I bet that Trump would win the nomination and beat Clinton to become POTUS.

I'll stand by my predictions, it's very unlikely that a vote to impeach will pass their senate.
"The most likely outcome at this point is a majority vote to impeach in the House, and the President is acquitted in the Senate," he said.

An overwhelming number of Senate Republicans still oppose impeachment. Of the 53 Republicans, 44 of them signed on to a resolution condemning the impeachment process so far.

If you want more of an idea of how partisanship is playing a hand in this process so far, look no further than the impeachment resolution that passed the House.

Every Democrat, except two, voted in favour. Every Republican voted against it.

Stay away from Occupy democrats, it'll rot your brain. It's straight up propaganda.

https://www.politifact.com/personalitie ... democrats/

"...No Republican Governor of Kentucky has ever been elected to more than one term, even after the state's constitutional prohibition of governors serving consecutive terms was repealed in 1992. The only Republican to run for re-election, Ernie Fletcher, was defeated by Democrat Steve Beshear in 2007. Bevin is only the second Republican governor of Kentucky in the last 50 years, after Ernie Fletcher (2003-2007). "

My thinking...

In 2016 Trump won more seats but lost the popular vote.
He ran on an Assange fueled conspiracy campaign with promises of everything to everyone that supported him. He has boasted (among other thinks) to have kept promises but the truth is Health care has gone Car workers, steel workers, farmers in the midwest are yet to see any imporovement in their situation and he is beset with questions regarding his integrity, corruption and lies! .
For the next 12 months, we are going to hear little on the election issues! All the attention will all be about Trumps using US military aid (approved by Congress and the State Department) to shake down what he saw as his most feared political opponent. Then there's his connection to Vladamir Putin's Russia. What were the 2 of them talking about in their 5 closed-door meetings and why is getting Russian Sanctions lifted so important to him? "Why would Russia hack the election?)! Then there is the imminent release of Tax Returns!
Add to that many of the gerrymandered coal states that carried Trump over the line are being forced to correct this imbalance by an Order from the Supreme Court stating this must be done by the 20-20 election!
2016 there was a very low turn out of Dem voters due to dissatisfaction at Clinton and your mate Wiki-leaks releasing details the dirty trick played on Sanders. That will not be a factor next year, and we haven't hear more than the tip of the ice-berg regarding what Drumps been up to while in office.
So all in all Trump is toast and the GOP will very soon realize he is electoral poison and must be done away with as soon as possible to stop what could be a near brush with oblivion for that once proud party! These hearings and the trial in the Senate will go on till wellll after Christmas with a vote not taken till late march at the earliest! Finding him guilty (and convicting him) would give them time to hold Rep Primaries and come up with a fresh candidate is the only honourable way out of their predicament!

Discount Ivanka at your peril. She'll be VP and half way through his second term he'll stand down and she'll become the USA's first female POTUS.

Here’s yet another story you won’t see in the headlines:

The stats don’t lie.

America is better off today than it has been in a long time.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/
Stats don't lie!
Are you serious?
Winston Churchill famously said that there are 3 types of lies.
Lies,
Damn lies,
and statistics!
(He knew a thing or three about politics, btw)

Anyhow, In an economy the size of the US you can cherry-pick facts to prove any point you like. The basic truth is Car Plants are closing down, Mid West Farmers are hurting because of the Trade war with China as are consumers who are paying more everyday goods that only China can provide cheaply. The much-vaunted "Wall" hasn't been built (and Trump is under investigation for falsely diverting funds from the Military Construction budget. Health Insurance has gone through the roof with no plan except repeal ObamaCare.
Add to that we have a president that is under considerable pressure from the FBI CIA State department and the entire Legal System of the USA, calls the US Constitution "A phony Document"! He is surrounded by 1/2 wits like Butt-Call Juliani, Pompeo, Sondland* and a host of others) who is accused of handing over the Federal Government over to Russian and seems intent handing US sovereignty to Russia again!

Next year you'd have to say things ain't all that Rosy for Donny and the Giant Impeachment!

*When the Ukrainian ambassador told the EU ambassador she was being told that the Ukrainian could guarantee her safety and that she was at risk from people in the US Sondland told her to... "Get a Twitter Account, say it's all lies and praise Trump and you might save your job.... She quite rightly resigned"!

https://www.wsj.com/articles/two-foreig ... 1570714188

those "Headlines" you spouted (fresh from Brietbart News Factory or it's equivalence) are the 3rd type and will not get much of a run in Mainstream Media not because of a Liberal plot but for ALL the reasons (and more) I have listed here and previously!

Interesting you brought up the Kentucky Governors election then conveniently move on from it when the narrative doesn't fit your bias. To add to what I wrote above, every downticket race was won by a Republican, including races they haven't won since 1948. There was a teachers strike and the Governor talked shit about them and went into the election with a 30% approval rating. He still manged a razor thin loss.

Listen up Chief.
You totally ignore everything I've said (fine with me, btw) about Trump and the Russians, Trump and Juliani, the Ambassador to Ukraine, (and just about everything Trump is accused of) and then have the gall to pull me up on a 3rd rate topic tells me all I need to know regarding what intellectual weight your opinions hold!
