i read this board fairly often and i gotta say, i havent seen much of what you allege. I think most people are happy that young Daics is getting games into him and people have seen some promising signs that a possibly great footballer is being developed.

I would observe that he is just a kid and therefore susceptible to inconsistent performance and an inability to play a full season. both of those factors lead me to think that he'll likely be dropped when we get a few more of our senior talent back.

But that is to be expected in his first year, is not an indictment or criticism of him and certainly not a statement as to his long term viability. In fact, we have seen little kernels that suggest the kid can play.

We will know more about Josh in season 2020, when we will be much more likely to see the types of performances from him that we might expect throughout his career.

I do agree that Brown seemed closer to being ready in the 6 games he played early this year than Daics, but i'm glad they are both getting some games into them.

5 goals from the wing on debut, I was also at Daics's first game. He looked special from the first moment.
Young Josh hasn't had a great impact yet, but I believe he will.

I think Brown and Daics play different roles, so I don't really see them as competing with each other for a spot in our team. Unless I'm mistaken, Brown seems to be competing with our other midfielders in Pendles, De Goey, Thomas, Adams and Sier, so is a long way down the list. Daics, on the otherhand, seems to be playing more of a forward/wing role. Therefore when/if Elliott returns, I'd be surprised if Daics held his spot. Nevertheless, he is going OK and getting these games into him now will set him up for a real crack in 2019. Fwiw, he already looks more muscular than when he arrived last year.

really interesting to see the comparison of stats between Josh and a couple of team mates. Particularly Stevenson's. Yes they play in different parts of the ground but I disagree with point made that comparisons between the two are meaningless. I think Josh will make the grade. Already has. Look forward to his younger bro join the fray. Be nice to think 2 Browns and Daicos boys continue our great tradition of generations and brothers playing. Hard act to follow is Peter but the club,including him and his wife, are doing it well. Just thought id better share an old pic in my shed to help the memories along of my all time favourite woodsman....

ITS very harsh comparing this kid to his old man, who was a friggin footy genius, the like of which the Pies may never ever, see again. I like young Josh, hes coming along nicely, learning the caper, getting better an better, give him a go, hes a kid, both him and Browney, they are the future of our club, so lay off him, give him time. ! Hes much better than bloody alex silvagini !!

Maybe not on this thread, but I have seen posts on a couple of other threads having a go at this kid. Look, we will never see the likes of his dad again, he will no doubt be a very different type of player. Im not saying don't compare, but its pretty hard to compare to a footy genius like his dad, really. Im sure he will be a very good player for us, but he wont be like his father, the only one I can think of who equalled his dad is ablett, both exceptional stars in their own right.

its funny you say that as i havent really seen Daics play as a forward at all.

Even though i agree that dont play exactly the same role, i do think they are competing for the same spot. Its the token spot for the young kids to let them get some games into them. i'm not saying its totally token, but if there wasnt a desire to get some games into them, i'm not sure they would necessarily warrant games on merit as they are both far too inconsistent at this early stage of their careers. Bucks is very wisely using the 22nd spot on the team with an eye to the future. That's what i mena when i say they are a straight swap.

By the way, the reason we finished 12th and 13th the last few years is that back then spots 17-22 were for players like this.

Alex Silvagni is not the son of any former player. I believe you are referring to Jack Silvagni, who is also a slightly framed, son of a gun.

fair call pnc on stuff like "hell never be as good as his old man". what im saying is I enjoy seeing similar traits over generations emerge.its good that Josh has made the team in the face of the enormous reputation of his dad. just shows how well they have handled things to let Josh explore his potential and see what he can achieve. plenty of great memories tto celebrate with Peter and hoping Josh gets his fair share in time
