He's a player of great technique and is amongst the very best of today's batsmen.
People may (and probably will) argue "but look at the bowling attack!" but there's nothing to be gained by trying to compare Ponting's 706 runs to Kallis's 712 for a 4 Test series.
They were both magnificent achievements by class batsmen.
