Petracca, Weideman and James Stewart

Post by Presti35 »

This is old recyclable stuff, so I thought I'd post it here instead of the main board. Just some random thoughts I had.

Have we made a mistake on James Stewart? Not so much by passing on him in the 2012 draft, but by not going for him in the past trade period.

Bombers got him for pick 77. We did get pick 76 from the Dogs for Cloke, but that pick ended up going to the Lions as a part of the complex Frost deal.

Stewart still has much to do to prove he belongs at AFL level, but he had a fantastic match last week, and as a 23 year old KPP, he fits a massive need on our list.

Well he's gone. And good luck to him.

Sam Weideman pushed himself out of the Collingwood way of life. His grandfather is absolute royalty at our club. But he picked a different team to support growing up and looks happy to carve his own story with Melbourne. Contracted until the end of 2019.

Christian Petracca grew up an absolute nut of a Collingwood supporter. He had black and white in his veins. Now he seems completely home in Melbourne colours. Contracted until the end of 2018.

Now it isnt just like, because you support a certain club growing up, you were born to play for them. After all Pendles was a keen Dee growing up, etc.

But I still wonder what would happen if the Pies spoke to their managers.

I'll just state right now, that these guys will probably never pull on the Magpies jumper. And Melbourne would make any trade request rather difficult. We dont have the realistic currency either.

And with Melbourne going well and their future looking nice for once, why would they want to leave?

But I just cant help but wonder how they'd fit in here.

Maybe I should focus more on "gettable" players like Mullett or some free agents?

Weideman slotted 6 in the VFL on the weekend.

Strange he didn't fly to WA last week considering they don't have Hogan at the moment.

No, "we" didn't make a mistake on James Stewart; know-it-all Hine did.
No wonder Craig went berserk at the club over this, back in 2012.

His confidence is growing, and he was far from the worst Essendoper in the Swans EF last week.

Not a great kick at goal [like his superb father was], but certainly most adept at leading outside of 50 for a clean grab and setting up a F50 entry.

I think he's a good fit at Essendon. And I think he's able to be a better player at Essendon. Right now anyway.

Right now, at Collingwood, he'd be #2 behind Moore. Rather than #3 after Daniher and Hooker. Again, he still has a lot to do to remain at this level, but his second half of 2017 is something we really could have done with.

And we could have easily beaten pick 77. And jersey number 9 is available too.

Maybe we'll get him when he's 32?

25.9 through the whole of 1981 and then, in the only game that mattered, he kicked 1.4.
