Let's take it back a step here. Australia weren't out of that test match...they didnt win but they weren't that far away. Now put McGrath, Lee, Warne back into the attack. This IS almost our second team JLC. Gillespie is the only bowler who'd hold his spot. If we want to bring up details this is Australia A's test team bowling line up and considering we weren't that far away from victory I'd say a 2nd team wouldn't do too bad.

Our batting was arrogant, but that's how we play. Arrogance wins you matches. It creates pressure knowing the other team is sure they will win. The hatred of their arrogance takes your mind off your job.

Actually more to the point that team is the future....lol McGrath doesnt have much left in the tank and Gillespie is injury prone. This was the perfect time for the depth to be tested.

Dont forget India were missing Singh and Kahn......not superstars but important players to their team.

Bichel the future? McGill the future? You have to be kidding me. These two are probably playing their last ever test series.

Bichel has never been a 1st string bowler for Australia. Mcgill hasn't either. McGrath with nothing in the tank? I tell you what, I'll take the team with McGrath, Warne and injury prone Gillespie than Khan and Singh any day.

If this was our team of the future, we weren't too far away. Look at their performers: MOM Dravid - not exactly a spring chicken...laxman (likewise) and agarker (had a day out - not a top line bowler). These are the guys who won them the test match.

I wanted the aussies to win but the Indians deserved victory and good on them. It makes the sydney test all the more salivatable.

id agree with JLC that gillespie is injury prone, but if hes not injured hes a good player.

McGrath will only play for about another season and then retire thats what i meant about nothing in the tank. He is struggling to come back from an ankle injury as it is.

I agree with you in that Bichel and MacGill are crap.

Langer will be under pressure again if he doesnt make some more scores. However this is when Langer performs the best.

Katich must also have a query mark on his spot although Waughs departure will make it easier for him.

Reports in the paper were that Gilchrist may retire within two years which would leave a huge hole in the team.

However overall the batting stocks are fairly healthy.

My concern is with the bowling. There is no spin bowler even remotely good enough to help fill the gap when Warne leaves.

The pace bowling stocks are not that healthy either in terms of bowlers who could lead the attack like McGrath has done. Lee would be the closest but he has to put his hand up and win some matches for the Aussies.

yes langer will be under pressure i agree. i thought katich did alright, how many tests has he played? he also got his PB for runs.

agreed on gilchrist leaving a massive hole.

lee is not a bad bowler but he is pretty expensive. with mcgrath, hes a great bowler, gets wickets but doesnt get smashed all over the ground in the process, unlike lee.

speaking of getting smaashed all over the ground, that reminds me of bichel. hes too expensive.

Katich had the luxury of playing against Zimbabwe or the Bangers didnt he ??

The only thing Bichel has going for him is that he is injury proof....lol

ha true that!! friggin bichel.

how old is katich? anyway i dont think hes too bad a player.

macgill gives me the shits, he missed a bloody sitter on the last day, because he was bludging around not watching.
the only good thing he did was take that caught and bowled one. which was lucky for him, cos it woulda gone for four otherwise!!!

MacGill isnt a good fielder at the best of times and seems to be a different character personality wise to the rest of the team and is a bit of a dummy spitter who bowls too many bad balls that agaisnt India get punished. He has no clue about batting either. At lest Dizzy and even McGrath take batting seriously.

When people in the media started saying that Waugh wont break the record because he wont have too many innings as Aussies wont have to bat much well thats arrogance.
Arrogance or just some ignorance towards the other teams abilities?

Anyway time will tell if India is a contender or Australia played "immaturely" as John Buchanan stated. Theres two more tests for the proof needed. :)

Arrogance, ignorance or just a typical Australian loutish, laidback attitude?

"Yeah mate we`ll f%ck 'em", the answer that regularly springs from the question of "Do you think we`ll win?".

Unless Brett Lee works a miracle the current attack wont bowl India out twice in one test match.

Yes, shit-pie with sauce for me thanks, as I too didn't think Dravid and Laxman could bat another match-winning partnership like they did away from their home soil, and particularly on our wickets. They, and not Tandulkar are proving to be our real nemesis.

It's a worry when McGrath and Warne aren't playing. It's like going into a game without Bucks or Rocca.
