Taking legal action apparently.

This has come out of nowhere.

So much for getting the last laugh. I wonder if he can still play or if he is cooked?

Heritier Lumumba set to retire, could take legal action over concussion treatment

Melbourne defender Heritier Lumumba is set to retire from football amid threats of legal action over his treatment for concussion.

Lumumba is understood to have claimed that doctors stopped him from playing last year due to concussion when he felt he was fit to play and so blocked him from being able to play sufficient games to trigger a clause in his contract for a fourth season with the Demons.

Lumumba did not play a senior game after round six this year, playing only one more game in the VFL for Casey where he suffered another head knock which effectively ended his season.

Now as he enters the third year of his contract, Lumumba cannot play enough games to automatically trigger that fourth year and he is considering legal action over the way he was handled.

Melbourne are confident they have been thorough, appropriate and comprehensive in the way they have handled their player for his short and long term medical future. He had MRI scans as well as consulting multiple doctors and specialists.

Well if he feels that he was being held back for that reason and he has the evidence, then I guess go for it?

But I cant see how he'll be able to beat the recommendations of the club doctors.

Why not play on in 2017 and earn another contract for 2018?

He's played 223 games and has just turned 30. By doing this, he has completely ruined any chance of playing elsewhere. If he wants to play on, then why not.... play on?

An important premiership player and an All-Australian player. Sadly, he'll be remembered for the wrong reason.

Im wondering how fit he is to play? It's just that, well, is he fit to play or is he just unable to go on?

With the tremendous benefit of hindsight, it looks like Collingwood won the Lumumba/Clark/Varcoe "mega trade" hands down - Varcoe has played 39 games for the 'Pies to H's 24 for Melbourne and both Clark and H look to be done, whereas Varcoe probably still has a couple of good seasons in him (he won't turn 30 until just after the Anzac Day game in 2018).

So H is considering legal action because they did not play him with concussion... and presumably would have considered legal action if they did play him with concussion. I m glad this prima donna is someone else's problem.

I said at the time he left Collingwood that he was a head case, but some people chose to blame Buckley for the breakdown in communication. Buckley may have his problems as a senior coach, but lack of communication isn't one of them. You wonder how Malthouse was able to manage him?

Pretty sure they had a big falling out because Buckley kept referring to Seedsman's by his nickname 'Lez' (as in Lesbian because of Seedy's butch haircuts).

I'll remember (and revere) H as a great Collingwood premiership player.
