Used to be a big F1 fan, had 2 mates who were mechanics for Brabham and Arrows. Went to all the Adelaide GP'S, was always a great time. Lost most of my interest after Senna was killed.

Followed the GP bikes but have largely gone off it. Indycar has limited appeal and V8, touring car and Nascar have next to none.

Murphy claims pole
From correspondents in Pukekohe, New Zealand
Fox Sports

FLYING Kiwi Greg Murphy has pole position in today's opening V8 Supercars motor race after this morning's qualifying times were scrapped due to rain.

The half-hour session to determine the top 10 grid positions started with a dry track but conditions deteriorated as the heavens opened.

All 10 drivers completed the tight 2.8km Pukekohe Raceway with Holden driver Todd Kelly topping the time sheets (56.90sec) after being first out.

He was fastest ahead of fellow Holden drivers Jason Bright (57.64) and Murphy (57.69).

But the times were scrapped after officials ruled conditions disadvantaged some drivers and they reverted back to qualifying times from yesterday, handing Murphy pole.

Instead of securing his second career pole position, Kelly will start back at 10th based on yesterday's times.

Defending series champion Mark Skaife will also start on the front row thanks to clocking the second fastest time yesterday, while championship leader Marcos Ambrose will start sixth on the grid.

Round 12's opening 100km race will be held today with two 150km events tomorrow.

Murphy wins at Pukekohe
From correspondents in Pukekohe, New Zealand
November 8, 2003

FLYING Kiwi Greg Murphy has defied atrocious wet conditions to continue his winning form at Pukekohe Raceway, south of Auckland, by taking out the V8 International's opening race today.

Murphy has won both V8 Supercar rounds held at Pukekohe to date and is in line for a rare hat-trick of victories after claiming the 100km opening race more than eight seconds ahead of nearest rival and fellow Holden driver Todd Kelly.

Holden's Garth Tander was third ahead of Ford's Jason Bargwanna and Paul Radisich.

The safety car came out only once after defending series champion Mark Skaife of Holden and Ford's Max Wilson spun off on turn two of the opening lap.

Seconds after the bingle - which effectively dropped Skaife from second to 26th in the field - Ford's David Besnard spun and finished in a four car pile-up while still under the yellow flag.

But there was no stopping overwhelming crowd favourite Murphy who kept his championship assault on track with his convincing win.

Round 12 of the V8 Supercars series will conclude with two 150km events tomorrow.

Bummer! LOL! Murph is only a few points behind Marcos now - thanks to Wilson who took Skaife off the track in the first race of the weekend! Wet road, no visibility, cold tyres and a move that was sure to end in disaster! Still, Skaifey's still up there and has a chance to sneak higher at Eastern Creek, although it'll be disappointing to see Marcos lose the championship in the last round.

What about Ingall helping Ambrose through the traffic to help Ford? I know a few people who have been whining about it but I don't see the problem with team-mates helping each other out if it's done legally.
