Nicholson got Goodwin for a quacker.

I was wondering why Waugh has persevered with Zammit as he was going for 5 r.p.o. but he did just remove North, for 28.

At 4/219, W.A. need to steady. They are only 159 ahead and a collapse could hand the outright to The Blues.

Langer and Campbell look to have made things safe for The Warriors with a 74 run partnership.

At lunch, they are 4/295, a lead of 235. Alfie is 141 n.o. and Campbell, 46 n.o.

W.A. declared on 8/362. Langer was 163 n.o.

Nicholson took 4/69 for match figures of 6/148 from 43 overs in his debut for The Blues.

N.S.W require 303 to win from 53 overs. That's almost 6 r.p.o.

We'll soon see if they're going to have a go. Would seem unlikely as they already have the 2 points for leading on the first innings.

Declaration sets up one-day finish
November 7, 2003 - Fox Sports

WESTERN Australian captain and century-maker Justin Langer set the Pura Cup match against New South Wales alight with a declaration on the final day at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

WA, trailing by 60 runs on the first innings, declared on 8-362 to set up a one-day style run chase for the Blues, while leaving enough time to take the ten wickets needed for victory.

The Blues needed 303 runs to win from 52 overs.

Langer finished on 163 not out, his 22nd century for his state, moving him past former Australian opener Geoff Marsh as the most prolific century-maker for WA.

NSW fast bowler Matthew Nicholson was outstanding today, taking 2-5 in an early four-over burst, then adding another two wickets to his tally after lunch to finish with 4-69 from 18 overs.

Langer and big-hitting Ryan Campbell put on a rapid 92-run partnership from only 114 balls as WA decided on the commendable tactic of trying to force a result in a game which otherwise would have fizzled into a draw.

Langer faced 236 balls and hit 18 fours and two sixes, bring up his century by cutting and pulling NSW captain Steve Waugh for two fours in three balls.

Well, looks like they are having a go.

Slats was out for a quick 17 - l.b.w. to Thorpe - and Pilon has already hit 2 sixes. Don Nash was sent in at first drop and clouted a 4 from his first ball.

Pilon has just been bowled for 19 (16 balls) by Blocker Wilson. They are 48 from 42 balls.

Nash will bash. Lol. If it comes off, who knows ? We know Steve Waugh will take up the challenge. Could be fun.

They're still going for it.

Nash was caught in the deep from Wilson's bowling for 13 (from 8).

Waugh is 18 from 17 and Jaques, 10 from 6.

After 11 overs, they are 3/81 and well ahead of the required run rate.

With the new batsman at the crease (Mark Waugh) the run rate has dropped off but the win is still in sight.

Steve just hit 2,dot,4,dot,6,dot to race to 96 from 113 balls.

Runs required are back to less than balls left.

Casson puts a cat amongst the pigeons by bowling Mark for 13 (22 balls) and they take drinks.

The Blues need 88 runs from 98 balls but are now 5 wickets down.

This is thrilling stuff.

Full marks to Alfie for declaring when he could have cruised to a double ton and great to see N.S.W. take up the challenge. Wish I was there.

Katich joins his captain in the middle. He was taken to hospital earlier in the day for X-rays for a suspected broken thumb. OK, just bruised.

Mmmm only 4 singles from the last 12 balls.

7 from the next over makes it run-a-ball now.
