Hopes has sent shock waves through The Bushrangers camp. They lost 4/4 in 28 balls !!

He has grabbed 4/28 and the Vics are 4/76. He claimed both openers and has now added Hodge (2) and Hussey (0).

They still need 84 to win. Interesting.

They're edging closer and closer.

If anyone's reading this and thinking, "What's the big deal?" let me tell you.

Victoria haven't beaten Queensland at the Gabba for 38 years !!!!!

McDonald (33) and White (21) have added 37 precious runs and now need 30 to win.

Correct, Kristin. It was 1983 when Ray Bright was captain.

I got my info from Fox Sports but quoted the bottom line. Oops.

"Victoria have not won a four day game at the Gabba since 1983 when Ray Bright led the southern visitors to an all-too-rare win.

Before that match the previous Victorian win at the home of Queensland cricket was in 1965"

What a game for Cameron White !!

In his first game as Victorian captain (Pura Cup) he did everything right.

He: Won the toss. Sent The Bulls in to bat. Rotated his bowlers like an experienced general. Took 5 catches. Scored 30 and 38 n. o. with the willow. Bowled 33 overs and took 6/71.

Well done, Cam and The Bushies.

Yaaay! Congratulations Victoria! Nice to see that at least one Vic team is able to beat a Qld team...

VIC beats QLD by five wickets
November 5, 2003 - Fox Sports

VICTORIA today broke through for its first four-day win at the Gabba in 20 years with a five-wicket Pura Cup victory over Queensland.

Despite some final day heroics from Bulls allrounder James Hopes, the Bushrangers steadied to make 5-160 and start the Pura Cup season in the best possible fashion.

But it was not all clear sailing with Hopes capturing 4-2 off 16 balls to have Victoria at a precarious 5-93 an hour before tea.

It took an unbeaten 67-run partnership from stand-in captain and man of the match Cameron White, who made 38 and Andrew McDonald (45no) to secure the win.

The win marked Victoria's first victory at the ground in a four-day game since 1983 when Ray Bright led the southern visitors to an all-too-rare triumph.

Before that match, the previous Victorian win at the home of Queensland cricket was in 1965.

The victory had looked a formality just before lunch with the Bushrangers reaching 0-50.

But Hopes, whose bowling in the match had previously failed to live up to his promise, hit a purple patch.

The 25-year-old had opener Matthew Elliott lbw for 23 just before lunch and after the break had Jason Arnberger in front without offering a shot for 27.

In his next over, he had Brad Hodge caught at gully for two with a searing bouncer and then he caught and bowled first innings century-maker David Hussey for a duck.

Joe Dawes also chipped in with the wicket of Jonathan Moss for 22 to have Victoria in danger of losing.

Hopes finished with 4-63 and Dawes 1-54, while Bulls paceman Mitchell Johnson was unable to bowl because of a side strain.

Queensland started the day on 7-233 aiming to soak up as much time at the crease as possible.

But with the aid of the new ball, Moss captured 3-12 off four overs to end up with 3-61 while Mathew Inness and 3-42.

Congrats Vics! You gave us a scare of course, but surely this is a big psychological step taken here, even though it's really only QLD's 2nds that we played. Victoria's hardest opponents have always been themselves.
I think the bulls needed Martin Love to win them the game in the absence of the national players, and i don't think he'll get a recall to the test team based on these scores.

Great commentary Donny, I haven't had a chance to come online to check out the scores so that was nice to read. Well done Victoria woohoo! :)
