Australia need 172 for victory
October 20, 2003
1.30pm Zimbabwe 308 and 266 (Katich 6-65) lead Australia 403 by 171 runs.
Australia will need 172 runs to win the second Test against Zimbabwe after dismissing them for 266 in Sydney today. The Zimbabweans were all out in the fifth over after the lunch break.
Simon Katich added another milestone to his career when achieving a six-wicket bag on debut to go alongside the half-century he scored in the first innings. He also played the key role in the run out dismissal of Heath Streak. It was an impressive return for Katich as Australia's attack had been so depleted, even before the loss of Brett Lee during the first innings. He ended with 6 for 65
Three balls after lunch, Raymond Price got the rough leg before wicket decision of the Test when umpire Srinivas Venkataraghavan ruled a ball from Katich would have taken the stumps. Television replays suggested otherwise. But he was on his way for a duck.
That opened the way for Andy Blignaut to launch into a belated assault, Brad Hogg suffering in the next over as six was taken over mid-wicket while two boundaries were cut and off driven respectively. But it was when attempting to loft Katich over the long on fence that he was out for 44.
