Laz,
Has any club actually been penalised for this yet? I thought all the penalties handed out so far have all been salary cap breaches. I know we lost Brett Chamlers in mid '90's for a similar reason, but that wasn't a salary cap issue as such was it?
Would the AFL have trouble PROOVING tampering, as the players' nominated salary prior to trade/draft is their own system working against them?

Chalmers

Seems a little rough though, can't players even nominate or negotiate with a team prior to the draft, even though they're obliged to play for the team that actually drafts them? In other words, had Chalmers been drafted by someone other than Collingwood, at the time these faxes circulated?

No Chalmers had only expressed his interest to play for Collingwood via fax so he could bypass the draft. Apparently it was Chalmers and Bucks who were both busted. Bucks had no choice but to go to Brisbane and he chose only to sign a one year contract. If my memory serves me correctly. It was quite big news here in Adelaide at the time.

:o Soloman is going to have run with the boys at the oval against the Shockers. Wants to get on the piss with Scotland and his mate Tarrant.
Might be a Pie by the time he gets home. :o

OMG I so want Dean Solomon to come to Collingwood but I have also heard that Richmond have interest in him too has everyone heard about that? but I reckon it will be good to have Solomon in our team and I would welcome him with open arms if he decided to join his mate Taz at Collingwood!!

Chalmers was busted because he sent faxes to other clubs saying that if they drafted him he would not play for them. I believe Richmond were keen on him as was Essendon, but McAllister hade made a deal with Chalmers and hence the faxes to scare the others off. All other clubs bypassed him and we picked him up only to have to trade him the following year to the Crows. He wasn't allowed to play for Collingwood. Luckily for us I guess as he didn't actually set the world on fire.

I believe Robert Pyman might have done the same thing also.

I don't think that Soloman will be able to train with Collingwood on the Oval, that would be against AFL rules as he is still a listed player with Essendon. I heard he was away travelling by himself and was due to meet up with the other Essendon team on their end of season trip.
