Thoughts on freo fans
And people reckon Collingwood supporters are feral. freo fans took it to a whole new level last night, threatening to hit opposition players (muppet got evicted), leaning over the fence and hurling abuse at a player who had clearly injured himself running into the fence while the guy sitting next to him actually hit the hawks player with a foam hand he was holding. And to top it off another freo fan was evicted and arrested for punching a woman in the face who confronted him about his behaviour. There is a video on the Age website. WTF is wrong with people.

It's long known that WA & SA games and their supporters are different to the eastern states. Last night proved that they are all 30 years behind normal humans, the constant booing was bored line ridiculous even though flogs Mitchell, Hodge & Rioli probably warranted.
From next year they should be forced to play games in empty stadiums!

There is Collingwood and then the rest.

C'mon - a few morons in the crowd does not mean all WA and SA crowds/supporters are feral.
Clearly the guy who assaulted the woman next to him was a drunk moron and will no doubt be charged for his thuggery, however the issues with a foam hand and the angst re the crowd shouting and overall broad brush applied to other passionate supporters is taking it too far!

however its worth noting other freo fans took the turd who hit the lady down, til the cops got there.
just as we dont appreciate being known as toothless mocco wearing tattoo covered morons, its unfair to tar them all with the same brush
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

Having spent quite a few years recently living in Perth I was shocked by how vitriolic both Freo and WCE fans are at games. It comes from a complete lack of knowledge about the game and a total lack of sportsmanship. Growing up we were always taught to appreciate a good mark, goal etc even if it was by the opposition. All they know how to do there is boo. There was nothing sweeter than being at Subiaco went we won the 2007 semi against WCE in extra time. We had been getting grief from all the WCE fans around us and after the game my partner said to a couple of young guys in front us 'Good game' and put her hand out to shake theirs and they turned their backs. That said it all to me. Thankfully we are now back living in Melbourne!
Is there any place you would rather be, than with me at the MCG?

They booed Andrew Gaze when he lifted the NBL trophy after beating the Perth Wildcats on their home floor in 1993.
Andrew Gaze.
The nicest guy in Australian sports history.
And they booed their little hearts out because they lost.
I found that unfathomable, unconscionable and completely un-Australian.

Get back on top.
Speaking of un-Australian, do they still want to secede from the Federation now that the mining boom is over? Haven't heard about that wish for a while now.Cam wrote:They booed Andrew Gaze when he lifted the NBL trophy after beating the Perth Wildcats on their home floor in 1993.

It does look bad, and in particular inexcusable for the 3 specific incidents highlighted. As a WA resident... I feel like throughout the week there was added media attention given to the expectancy of a 'hostile' crowd.
There is obviously a constant pressure on Freo due to them not having a premiership after 20 years. A feeling of 'we weren't given them same concessions' seems to be a going argument also. The rivalry with West Coast goes to the extreme where Freo will feel extremely insignificant until they win at least 3 premierships.
Let us hope the game doesn't need to be surrounded by chicken wire. Let us also hope that these individuals were immediately thrown out of the venue, no warnings / no second chances.
