You mean someone seriously tried to tell another club about our 1997 gameplan?

So what was the secret - watch out, Buckley will try to kick it long to Rocca?

Haha yes. I'm sure other clubs were lining up to figure Tony Shaw's coaching secrets. ;)

It was Carlton, which might explain it. I think they were even worse than us that year!

Footscray's secret finals secrets:

1. Lose final by five points, then tell everybody it was the greatest performance since the battle of Rorkes Drift.

2. Point out how many injuries the club sustained during the season making the plucky but futile finals loss...(see 1)

3. Find some schmuck who is stuck on 299 games, usually because no one will trade for him, then win a final just to get him to game 300...

4. Then...lose next final by a big margin, but at the same time because the team got our hero to game 300, it was (see 1)

5. If you have a half decent full forward, move him to centre half forward, then forget to recruit someone to play full forward. Better yet put someone undersized like Danny Delre or Brad Johnson at full forward and kick the ball high over his head...

6. And of course none of this matters because on Brownlow night Footscray reigns supreme...everyone knows that Brownlows are more important than premierships, or grand finals, or actual finals wins...
