Agree Bat, forward line looked dysfunctional most of the day and struggled to take advantage of a heap of F50 entry. Did notice we were very short and with Gault, Still and Close unavailable and White getting a last minute promotion I guess that's understandable.

It would not be drawing a long bow to suggest he could be a champ

Oh John Wren can you please not use that word muppet
on a Nickster.
Use only when referring to an umpire please!
And to Fire up it is at the Port Melbourne oval not too far from
the light rail stop.

So is the only reason we have to play at North Port Oval because there is no fence at Vic Park?

Yes, what a great observation!
Never has a truer statement been made on Nicks.

No. Well, not entirely. It's as much a matter of old VFA tradition as it is convenience for Channel 7 (so they can leave their broadcast equipment set up in the one place for two games over two days, rather than carting them backwards and forwards) that there be 2 "neutral" finals between 5v8 and 6v7 at North Port.

We played an elimination final at Victoria Park without a fence last year, largely because of a scheduling hole the VFL found itself in due to Port Melbourne finishing 2nd and claiming a home final, a right the VFL only doles out to teams that finish 1 and 2. This meant the VFL had the impossible task of playing 3 finals at North Port Oval over two days. As such, an opportunity presented itself to fixture Collingwood, as the highest ranking of the 5th to 8th teams, at Victoria Park, provided Collingwood pay for the lost gate takings.

The hope was that we could wrangle a similar arrangement this year but all the noise is that the game will be at North Port Oval, which is a shame, because we'd get a big crowd at Vic Park and it would look good on TV if Channel 7 was willing to shoulder the inconvenience of broadcasting from two different grounds in two days...
