I wonder if we will be suffer from the fact we won't be playing AFL finals. By that I mean will we be ultra conservative and not play guys like Reid and rest Marsh, Maynard, Scharenberg and Moore in week two of the finals ( if we win our elimination final)? If we go all out and put out our strongest team we could go a fair way.

If everyone eligible is allowed to play, then this would be our approximate side in week 2, when the restrictions kick in (assuming we make it to week 2, of course, given it will most likely be an elimination final):

B: Goodyear, Marsh, Wallace
HB: Maynard, Pendlebury, Scharenberg
C: Young, Macaffer, Seedsman
HF: Dwyer, Gault, Karnezis
F: Moore, Reid, Hellier
R: Witts, Moloney, Kennedy
I: Cox, Manteit, Williams, Armstrong, Borthwick*

Surely the club realizes it has a duty to field the strongest possible VFL finals side.

Holidays can wait for those eligible.

the review is up:

for p4s' benefit, the bests are from the coaches and the players' reviews are done by the media dept.

Just got to watch the game. My thoughts are as follows:

The ball use was excellent. Young, Oxley Seedsman and Scharenberg, in particular, could all improve the senior team on that display. That was, IMO, the best game Scharenberg has played. Oxley and Seedsman both kicked goals (Oxley 2) from outside 50 and the senior team could use a bit of that. Caff's ball use was also very good and his ball-handling was very sure.

Armstrong's ball use was outstanding, too, but his defensive work left a little to be desired, at times. Richmond's first two goals were created, in part, because of Armstrong's decisions to peel back off the contest repeatedly and create what I think of as a defensive "underlap". He's looked quite accomplished at creating the underlap at senior level, too - and, frankly, I've had enough.

Witts was very good. He competed well in the ruck and took strong marks at both ends of the ground. White wasn't as dominant as he has been in the last two games but he did some nice things and worked well in the ruck when called upon.

Kennedy once again had a lot of the ball but his kicking wasn't as good as in recent weeks. That said, he should have had a 50-metre goal in the first quarter but, unfortunately, Cox decided to touch it through as it sailed over his head for a goal.

Viola and Close will likely both be looked at for spots on AFL lists. Close isn't strong enough in his upper body but a summer on the weights might make a senior player of him. Viola had bad injuries when playing in the TAC Cup (a broken leg and an ACL???) and he looks like he has the size and pace to be more than a top-up VFL player.

What to make of Cox's game? He started crunching contested marks around the ground when the score was 102 to 42 and took his first mark in front of goal (from an extremely clever kick to his advantage by Sammy Dwyer) when the score was 115 to 42. He certainly made it his own personal show in the last 35 minutes but you'd like to see some more of that before the team was 12 goals up.

I also thought that was the best game I have seen Goodyear play.
