The interesting thing about the VFL games that get set down as curtain raisers is that they are/will be played under different timing rules, with four fixed quarters of 27 minutes, with no time on.John Wren wrote:http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-118-0-0-0&sID=60264&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=35352363

Good to get a couple more TV games, but I don't like the delayed format. In 2015, there should be no footy on delay.

Jezza one tiny, weeny detail you omitted: The Mad Monk Tony also said he will never cut the ABC or SBS before the election. Apart from a few extreme right wing nutters most people support the ABC regardless of the which political party they might vote for.Jezza wrote:It's a publicly-funded channel Dave so not everyone will be unhappy to see cuts occurring within the ABC.Dave The Man wrote:Donnigan was not doing the VFL last season.3rd degree wrote:i cant believe that the vfl wont be on ABC that sucks, poor Phil Cleary and Donnigan whats going to happen to them?
Say thanks to Abbott and his Mates from taking money away from the ABC
For crying out loud Bob Hawke made a 7% cut to ABC in the 1980s in contrast to Abbott who's made 5% cuts to ABC funding yet I don't see any indication that people were being hysterical towards Hawke in the 1980s than they are now about this issue.
The other part of that equation is one can't keep on cutting & expect to run a quality service a the same time.

I'm surprised this got quoted four months after my post but nevertheless that's cool.watt price tully wrote:Jezza one tiny, weeny detail you omitted: The Mad Monk Tony also said he will never cut the ABC or SBS before the election. I'm not doubting that Abbott didn't go into the election saying that no cuts would take place with the ABC and SBS which is therefore a broken promise to the Australian people but I was merely pointing out how Hawke underwent similar cuts to the ABC during the 1980s but no one seemed to bat an eyelid over it at the time but whether he made the promise to do it or not I'm not entirely sure.
On your second point do you have any statistical evidence supporting the assertion that 'most people support the ABC regardless of which political party they might vote for'? I'm not saying you're wrong it but I'm just interested to see whether this is actually true or not.
