Sunday's game, Cats/Crows has been cancelled.

Farce. Geelong are right to play and should be awarded the 4 points.Donny wrote:Sunday's game, Cats/Crows has been cancelled.

Geelong will spit blood if by round 23 they have missed either the eight, of perhaps sixth spot by a mere 2 points.

Hard to see what else the AFL could do under the circumstances but in terms of our ladder aspirations this game being called a draw could come back to haunt at some stage as we'll likely be competing with both for ladder position. Another weeks rest for their players also which may or may not benefit them given it'll now be a 2 week break for the Cats.

All well and good with the criticism but do tell us what your solution would have been Dyso?? Interested to know what else the AFL could have done tbh....piedys wrote:Farce. Geelong are right to play and should be awarded the 4 points.Donny wrote:Sunday's game, Cats/Crows has been cancelled.

I think it's a fair outcome in a terribly difficult situation. Even though it affects Geelong I think they will be happy to comply considering the circumstances and to be honest I would have expected us to do the same if we were in such a position.
Good decision by the AFL to not cancel the whole round which would have severely disrupted the whole season.

Agree. That is why I find Dyso's criticism unfair. He is fully entitled to criticise the decision but I would love to know what else the AFL could have done under these awful circumstances. Please explain Dyso........Jezza wrote:I think it's a fair outcome in a terribly difficult situation. Reality is, Adelaide and Geelong should not be awarded any points. Instead, we use winning percentage to decide on ladder position.
So if Adelaide win 13 games out of 21, then finish higher than another team that wins 13 games out of 22, even if their percentage is lower as they have win 62% of their games against 59%.
This is the fairest way to deal with cancelled games.

I think they're just declaring this game a draw so effectively they're both still on 22 games. What'sinaname wrote:Reality is, Adelaide and Geelong should not be awarded any points. Instead, we use winning percentage to decide on ladder position.

FFS brother Lazza!! This is professional sport, and needs to be treated as such, despite the tragedy that unfolded.Lazza wrote:All well and good with the criticism but do tell us what your solution would have been Dyso?? It all comes back to Geelong: their home game, their sponsorships compromised, their dollar$ lost.
Should Geelong have said, well, our blokes are okay to play, what about the Crows blokes? And the Crows declined to field a team for psychological reasons etc, then Geelong would be entitled to 4 points.
It would effectively be a forfeit by Adelaide. And that's fine.
But hey, if Geelong don't care about missing out on the extra two points, they I sure as shit don't care even less!
As long as the AFL, Adelaide and Geelong are in full agreement about the points arrangement, then ultimately that's all that matters.
Laz, should you wish to take the matter further, please have your legal team contact my legal team, or at least have that really hot chick who works on your floor ring me?
