It Ain't Over 'Till It's Over - WADA to Appeal.

Post by sixpoints »

World Anti Doping Authority (WADA) has opted to exercise its right of Appeal in the AFL Anti Doping Tribunal decision involving Essendon FC.
WADA's appeal will be heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport based in Switzerland.

Looks like justice is going to find its way to capture James Hird, at last! I hope the players don't get punished too much but hopefully Hirds time is going to be up for leading this disgraceful venture into performance enhancing drugs.

Clearly WADA believe they are guilty.

The most interesting part for mine is the difference on the burden of proof requirement.
ASADA & WADA codes stipulate it's on the athlete to prove they didn't take any illicit substance.
The AFL hearing made asada prove beyond a doubt that the players knowingly took an illicit substance.
The court of arbitration of sport work in the same manner is wada and asada. So now it will be up to Essendon to prove no player took or was given any illicit substance.
This is going to be near impossible as there is no documentation to support there claims and Dank won't or can't supply anything.
The fact that asada uncovered a invoice from a chemist who admitted he made up peptides containing thymosin beta 4 and supplied it to Dank and Essendon payed the invoice was compelling to asada but to the AFL they said there was no proof that it was given to players.
Really then what happened to it ? Maybe they gave it to the board hence there stupidity of allowing this farce to drag on so long.
WADA have appealed world wide (on information I can find) 17 times and have had the original verdict overturned on 16 occasions. That's a very high strike rate.
I doubt they would appeal unless they were 99.99% sure of winning.
For mine it's the club and Hird who need to be punished the most.
Yes the players will be punished I hope WADA don't give them the full whack of 2yrs. If they do hopefully it will be back dated some way.
I can see this is going to be a huge slap in the face for the AFL and there systems.

Yes - and ABC on-line and ABC radio and 3AW and The Age etc etc etc. Not much doubt that this is accurate.

Look Essendon are filth beyond doubt but the real criminals here are the AFL.

From the moment that they warned Essendon rather than reporting them directly to the relevant authority, handing over all their info and opening thier books it was evident to all that this was going to be an arse covering excercise from first to last.

So it has played out . . . .

BUT . . . .

WADA isn't ASADA.

The AFL have tried it on and bullied ASADA into accepting their frame of reference in the hope that they can make it all go away.

Now WADA has said 'what you talkin about Willis??!!'

Bigger organizations than the AFL have tried to bluff and bluster WADA and failed miserably.

This is a WORLD authority, responsible to only the WORLD sporting court.

The AFL have had their fun, now they get to see how the big boys play.

Sadly our wonderful game has been dragged down into the gutter and is about to be exposed as such on a world stage.

I am absolutely FURIOUS that the AFL has forced this upon us, the fans who ultimately pay their salaries.

...and the media for egging on the bullshit.

doesn't matter, Essendope tried to cheap, doesn't matter if it worked, i don't care how much suffering this drawn out case has brought them, if they had not tried to get an unfair advantage "they would not be shocked to be sitting here". For the good of the game, this needs fixing. They need to cop their right whack, and letsget back to good ol "honest as it can be with with the cheating AFL in charge" footy.
