PART 2: Bucky's surprise match-ups for big grand final clash

Post by Heath Buck »

Continued from yesterdays mid-week match-ups I will now look at some of the tussles that might come from left field and will not be expected on the day.

BEAU NIXON V MICHAEL GEORGIADIS - Nixon last week proved that he was more than capable in holding down a key position and did a particularly good job in containing Port's danger forward David Bourke. If Nixon can play on and contain Box Hill's Georgiadis then it allows Willy's other talls in Cloke and Richardson to push forward and spend time in the ruck. Nixon has the pace and the body size to go with Georgiadis who has worked into some reasonable form after being strucked down by injury late in the season.

LEON DAVIS V ANTHONY MARGUCIO - Leon has been in good consistent form rather than brilliant one week and ordianry the next week form. This would please Brad Gotch because he knows everytime Leon steps out on to the ground he is going to get something positive out of his champion goal sneak. Box Hill's Matthew Smith tried unsuccessfully to curb the magic of Davis the last time these two teams met and Liberatore used fringe player Margucio in the second half with better effect. Whether he goes that way again is debatable but one would suggest Libba might stick with the match up that worked.

BEN NEAGLE V RUPERT BETHERAS - Former Eastern ranges player Ben Neagle was recalled into the Box Hill side last week and did a massive job curtailing the influence of 2003 Liston Medal winner David Robbins. One suspects the kid might get another big job in the grand final and after the superb game of Rupert Betheras last week the Box Hill Hierarchy will be keen to find the appropriate match up for Betheras whose running and ball getting ability has been damaging throughout the final series.

TIM HAZELL V JARRED MOLLOY - The Hawthorn rookie might get the toughest job of all trying to hold the most powerful and dynamic man playing in Sunday's grand final. Molloy's body-size, strength and pace makes him an extremely difficult opponent to match up on. Hazell appears to have the size and speed to go with Molloy but whether he has the strength is very questionable. Time will only tell whether Hazell gets the nightmarish task of manning Molloy. But we know one for sure! If Molloy can be stopped then Box Hill might just go a fair way to establishing a significant ascendency in this grand final.

Stay tuned for more Key match-ups in the coming days.

Another excellent piece Bucky, but a couple of minor errors need correction.

Nixon's first name is Bo, which is shortened from the full version of Bowman, and before Lisey sees this and jumps on you, Molloy's first name is Jarrod.

Just helping out, that's all.

Bucky's Left field match ups

Post by Mick Gallus »

Bucky,

Who wil be matched up on the dangerous and ecletic Doug Scott and will he be drafted as the age suggested yesterday?

Will Walker play on the potential match winner Loats?

Will Gotchy pull a surprise inclusion with the pacy Tom Hill, former SYD Swan, who kicked 4 gls last week for the reserves, included to run against the Box Hill midfield might at the spacious Optus Oval?

Is Andrew Williams qualified to play?

Will Lloyd tag Sewell as hehas done throughout the year?

Bring on Sunday!!!!! Go Willi!!!!!!
