How the Welfare spends AFL (& the Pies) Money
Something seems amiss to me, not quite halal or kosher:

It's sickening. A bit like the Gold Coast using our money to snatch our Director of Football or the Bears using our money to take Beams or the Blooz using our money to take Thomas. We enjoy the "gift" of being the best-supported and best-financed club in one of the few world sports in which financial resources don't help.
Imagine if money was being ripped out of Barcelona, AC Milan or Manchester United for similar purposes. There'd be a revolt.

I should add that I'm concerned that paying another team's players is a way of "spending" the minimum of your salary cap, so that you can make a play for another big fish when the opposition player comes off your books. These sorts of deals should be penalised - they are a form of corruption of the competition.

This short paragraph in the article is what really annoys me a lot as money being used to pay Griffen is coming out of the pockets of clubs like us, Hawthorn and West Coast. The Bulldogs remain one of the AFL's most heavily subsidised clubs under the equalisation policy, meaning the competition will indirectly cover Griffen's pay packet.
I'm not happy at all and from now on the Bulldogs should not cry 'poor' because they're able to afford to pay Tom Boyd an average of one million dollars a year which were not able to do.

Collingwood shouldnt "support"Welfare Dogs Griffen
It makes my blood boil to think that the Welfare Doggies, will pay a massive $900 000, out of other clubs funds, to pay out contract of ex Dog Captain Griffen, now at GWS. ! What on earth is the League coming too, the HIGHEST PAID DOG PLAYER WILL BE GUY WHO DOESNT EVEN PLAY FOR THEM ?? Surely, to God, this was not the point of the Equalisation Fund, or whatever the hell its called nowadays ??
The Dogs are the most heavily SUBSIDISED CLUB IN THE LEAGUE, bar none, and its wrong that they are doing this for Boyd, a bloke who has played a mere handful of games, in the forlorn hope he "May" be a future Buddy ! I mean, he COULD be the next Buddy, but its not up to other clubs to finance long term conjecture by these broke teams. I don't want the Dogs to end, no way, and I don't mind our Club helping them balance the books, get their house in order, and I don't mind em recruiting players like Taylor adams etc, Freeman, those types. But his sort of inane recruiting is ludicrous, to the extreme for a team in dire financial straits, its madness really !
But, if Collingwood ever got into this idiotic crap game of paying out a players heflty contract, at another club, I would be disgusted with us, and would quit my Membership. I don't think we have ever done this, and hopefully,we never will. Its simply wrong, and not commonsense, surely ?!

Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Argh Yes
Argh yes spoken like a true Liberal supporter. The rich should never give anything to help the poor. That's what your type are all about. This is not about helping the Western Bulldogs win a flag, it is helping a poorer club merely survive. THey needed to get rid of this bloke and he wanted to go. At least they give their fans a Social Club and allow their Cheer squad to go to games and yell their hearts out without security and selective entry impositions. Think about it! We are a rich club because we got lucky. It's only right that we should share our wealth and help those clubs less fortunate. That's what I want our society to be like as well. I don't want a dog eat dog world like you. When your cobber is in trouble, the decent aussie thing to do is to help him out. Good old traditional Aussie values. Not the Chinese values your want where greed and materialism prevail. The AFL is a confused socialist model and should be more like the old USSR where people are equal. I want to see Footscray prosper so the big corporate Clubs can be made realise that a Club that looks after its members at the grass roots level is what works.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

oh my, ive been called many things on this site, but never a "true Liberal supporter ". Hiss, I don't mind helping out the doggies, if you read my post properly, but not too the extent of paying a former dogs player at another club, more than any current dogs player gets, that's just economic craziness, pure an simple.

damn straight, I well recall in 1986, when our club came within one hour of total insolvency, other teams fans were cheering and laughing at our imminent demise, they derided us and made jokes about us. I have never, ever forgotten that, never.

i remember fitzroy supporters rattling a can and footscray supporters doing the same. i didnt give them a cent, and i wouldn't expect the same for our club from them. If we don't have the support to exist in our own right, then we disappear. Like Fitzroy, like University.
The amount of money i have spent at he collingwood shop on branded merch over the years and incl membership etc, i reckon i should have a XXXXing wing named after me!
