I'm amazed at the level of contempt I feel for Hird. Don't know why - gut feel, hunch, call it what you want. He drove this whole program and is so arrogant he won't accept defeat.
Had a thought earlier.... he would have known that if he chose to challenge alone that it was the end of his coaching career. Is that possibly why he did it? This way he does have to accept any blame. He'll be fired.. he can keep fighting all he wants but no-one will be watching.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out I say!

Yeah I noticed the drunk one couldn't even get his facts right for his piece.Damien wrote:I shot him a quick email this morning 'complimenting' him on his nice piece about us in today's Herald Sun. He had a crack at Carlton yesterday and us today. Can't see him completing the trilogy with a critical piece on the Bombers tomorrow.
He listed Plugger as one who turned his nose up at Collingwood when in actual fact he was keen but the board vetoed it (in their idiocy).
And this is Australia's largest selling newspapers Chief Football writer.

Looks like Bomber will get his wish and be announced tomorrow.
Robbo's story was very disappointing, not the first non factual piece he has written this year.

McAllistar did say that Lockett was coming to Collingwood but thanks to a couple of board members, he didn't get there.Flashman wrote:Yeah I noticed the drunk one couldn't even get his facts right for his piece.Damien wrote:I shot him a quick email this morning 'complimenting' him on his nice piece about us in today's Herald Sun. if Caro says he's going to be sacked, he's likely to get a 4 year contract extension.watt price tully wrote:Hird is apparently going to appeal ? sue?
The club isn't
Hird is going to be sacked according to Caro. (On SEN radio)

Who knows what's going to happen. However, she has been on the money with respect to her views about Essendon so far.stui magpie wrote:if Caro says he's going to be sacked, he's likely to get a 4 year contract extension.watt price tully wrote:Hird is apparently going to appeal ? sue?

The latest "gossip" is the AFL told Essendon they wouldn't consider any financial assistance request if they appealed. Apparently Essendon have spent so much they are near skint and still have to pay costs awarded against them.
As for Hird the AFL want him gone ASAP. He has at every turn taken pot shots at them and basically challenged there authority over this whole episode.

I recall the statement / rationale to 'bone' Matthew Knights, was in part the money Essendon were losing through loss of membership and sponsors. And that Hirds signature would turn that around.
Adding another ~$1m settlement to Dean Robinson, this has to be the most expensive coaching change of all time.
Their financial statements will make interesting reading. before their move to Essendon airport, I recall they had $12m in the bank. Not so much now....

Yes but doesn't it warm your heart to know that our profits, massive contribution to tv rights, and the equalisation fund will pay for their troubles and they will probably finish ahead of us next year after their players get off on a deal once hird is sacked.buzzlightyear wrote:I recall the statement / rationale to 'bone' Matthew Knights, was in part the money Essendon were losing through loss of membership and sponsors.
