Essendon loses ASADA court case

Post by uncanny »

So Federal Court Justice Middleton has ruled that. contrary to what Essendon and their golden boy alleged, ASADA did act lawfully in their investigations into their supplements program.
So now ASADA finally get to throw the book at them?
Surely Hird gets the axe.
Or will it be a six month sentence that finishes magically before round 1?
Will they get a whack with a big stick or a limp lettuce leaf?

Next key step will be Essendon sponsors will walk. And with them the money that runs that club.

End of Essendon.

I am so glad about this decision
James Hird and his club have to face the fact that they did the wrong thing and stop trying to wriggle out of it

The players might not be available for some time yet......once they've all served their doping bans. This just gets better and better...

The collective schadenfreude by Collingwood supporters makes this a collingwood issue.

NRL Sharks admitted guilt in that even though were not sure if drug was legal they still were guilty by participation. they complied with whatever ASADA seemed fit to impose...in other words they cooperated and were slapped with a limp lettuce leaf (as you say).

Hird and Essendon did totally the opposite. Depends whether ASADA is willing to deal? I would think not, rightly all players and Hird could face up to 2 year bans.
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

Hirds conduct throughout this whole saga has been extraordinary.

It's clear to me (and probably most of you) that he was one of the main architects of the whole supplements program implemented at Essendon yet he seemed to be living in a constant state of denial to his actions.

Whether this was simply a legal move to try and minimise the potential for possible legal action taken against him into the future or sheer arrogance and an attempt to protect his legacy (and ego) I do not know. Probably a mixture of both.

If he has any self respect left then he should resign.

The deliberations of the judge is what I expected and this pretty much means now that ASADA can resume their investigations into Essendon's supplements program.

Essendon has lost all fronts in trying to string out this issue and attempting to get away from this based on ASADA being unlawful in their investigations because now they'll have a massive legal bill coming towards them on top of all the other issues they're dealing with at the moment.

It'll be interesting to see what happens regarding the futures of Essendon players such as Paddy Ryder who may be able to leave the club based on a clause in his contract regarding duty of care.

Good outcome all round today!
