Thanks TB.

There's certainly been enough hints from this pre-season to suggest to me that that is what Buckley wants. He wants versatility. Yesterday's dearth of forward entries from Bendigo presented the perfect opportunity for Keeffe to be switched forward to try him out, so they took it.

For mine, I'd rather focus Keeffe on mastering the position he already has at CHB rather than trying to make him into a CHF at the same time as well.

Of course, I'd rather both Keeffe and Reid in the backline (Reid to replace Maxwell), but that's another discussion for another time.

And I just couldn't let this one of yours go...

one club, two teams. the vfl outing is so much more relaxed. I do agree that it's way too early to make a call on a players season and future on the back of one ordinary game. I hope more supporters get behind us.

i have been to three afl games so far. all at etihad. at each game i was bombarded by music, a countdown, fake sound of the crowd roaring and extortionate food prices. then there's the overzealous 'customer service' people always wanting to tell you where you can and cannot go.

it is becoming less enjoyable to go to afl games now.
Sadly, the draw makes it nigh on impossible for supporters outside Melbourne to see too many VFL games this season as they don't align with AFL games. Could make a trip to Melbourne to specifically see the VFL but only get so many opportunities and senior footy preferred.

Thanks the report Bat, what do think Martin's chances are of coming in as a half forward. He can definitely kick straight and has a touch of mongrel about him which i like, which was apparently brought out of a van from the guy who plays the trumpet at frankston home games.

^^^ For what it is worth, 3rd, MB and I had a similar take on Martin (namely, he was very good but needs a few more runs, given his injury-affected pre-season):
Pies4shaw wrote:Kyle Martin also impressed - he kicks so well (including for goal) that he must be a chance to get elevated later in the year as his fitness base returns.

I'm a big fan of this kid, and he didn't let me down. Kicked 3 goals in total and executed some lovely kicks. Also took a freakish one-handed mark (right in front of me!) Still has some way to recover full fitness and of course needs to become a better two-way runner, but the kid should in all likelihood be pushing for senior selection at some point this year. Problem is, there aren't any rookie promotions left at the moment. There are a couple of blokes on the list who should be forced aside for him, but the list lodgement rules don't allow for demotions on the grounds of spudliness...

At the very least, he will be dominant at this level when he is not playing seniors.

Apparently Jake Williams was a roughy in last years draft. Hopefully he proves to be a handy acquisition.

Thanks MB. While having not seen the game, your observations concur with mine
- Dwyer must play this week (with Reid, White & prob Keefe)
- Martin has a future
- Thomas in another week
- Goldsack will play the majority of time in the 2nds this year if we are to progress as a team
One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership

I think bongo drums are more their thing down there...

But as for Martin, I would have found a place for him on the list last off-season, but AFL rules bind us into keeping him as a rookie unless someone else goes down with a long term injury.
