I agree Neil......I've been pretty clear I'm not in the bleeding heart brigade though I do see their point. But I still think we're all better off United and have more important things to worry about than Thomas.neil wrote:This is a valid point however it is Carlscum we are talking aboutSeptember Zeros wrote:Let the bleeding Hearts with thier sense of fairness and understanding bleed for him, and let the die hards with thier sense of tradition and rivalry hate him. Neither are wrong to feel as they do. And both sides need to accept the other.

Don't blame Daisy, Dave. We valued him far below his worth on the open market. If we had of got close to what Carlton was offering he would have stayed. The reality is that our loyalty didn't extend as far as Carlton's desperation.Dave The Man wrote:http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/carlton-recruit-dale-thomas-feels-the-best-he-has-in-years-as-he-prepares-for-round-1-debut/story-fni5f5nx-1226808594602
Get Stuffed Daisy
I'm happy with the professional decision Collingwood has made. Loyalty stretches so far, but the gap we asked Daisy to jump meant he was making a far bigger sacrifice than us.
I wish him all the best. We don't need him to blow an ankle to justify our decision. Sadly I think we made the right decision and so did he.

To be fair we haven't had a great record at diagnosing ankle injuries.
Our medical staff knocked back Steve Johnson because his ankle was supposedly shot, before he pulled his head out of his arse ( to a degree) and played in 3 premierships for the cats.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
This is 100% spot on. Even the Yankees lost their best player this year because the Seattle Mariners offered him a $240 million contract (yep, that aint a typo).MOTR wrote:Don't blame Daisy, Dave. You have to make decisions re players based on what is best for the club as a whole and you have to be especially disciplined in a salary cap system. Every dollar is critical.
I personally believe the pies have a premiership caliber list now (and clearly so do they as their main pripority appears to be locking up this nucleus for the next 3-5 years).
If Dale Thomas was on the list, it's possible we lose, in addition to Scharenberg (obviously), a couple of players who we might not have been able to pay had we kept Daisy.
I also agree that a player needs to be able to move if another club is willing to take a risk that Collingwood isnt prepared to take. i will not be one of the collingwood fans irate at Dale Thomas (although i will cringe every time he single handedly wins a game for Carlton - which i bet happens more than once).
