This is the usual ploy when naming the sides, hence the amount of players named as interchange for Williamstown.

Those that are able to attend on Saturday will know which of these 'double up' players will actually wear the black-and-white on Sunday.

I didn't think it possible, but Essenscum set the precedent by having a player run out for Bendigo on the Saturday, then front up again the following day for the seniors. I'm sure Mick would want his starting 22 at their peak, so it's highly unlikely that any of those that play for Williamstown on Saturday would get an immediate call-up against Carlscum.

Davis hits form for Willy

Post by Dale61 »

COLLINGWOOD fans will not have long to wait for explosive forward Leon Davis to be back in senior company.

Williamstown coach Brad Gotch was full of praise for the elusive forward after his sparkling 16 possessions, three marks and a goal in yesterday's VFL match against the Northern Bullants in heavy conditions at Point Gellibrand.

Williamstown won the match by 24 points to lock in a top-three ladder position.

"Leon set us alight in the second quarter when we kicked eight goals," Gotch said.

"He has been very good in the past two weeks on the ball, which is something he hasn't been able to get at senior level."

Davis said Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse, who watched the game from the grandstand, had told him to go back to Williamstown and build up his fitness after some lean weeks at AFL level.

"It's good to have a few kicks and help the boys in the midfield," Davis said.

After a first quarter without a goal, Williamstown got on track to record a 13.9 (87) to 8.15 (63) victory.

Gotch said there were many positives, citing the outstanding contributions from Dane Swan, Adrian Fletcher, Josh Mahoney, Sam Cranage, Mark McGough, David King and Heath Scotland.

Swan, unlucky to be dropped from the Collingwood side from today's Carlton game, had 13 kicks and 15 handballs.

Fletcher gathered 27 possessions, Mahoney, 25 and three goals, Cranage, 23, McGough, 21, King, 20 and Scotland, 19.

The Bullants best included Carlton squad members Justin Murphy, who had 34 disposals, Jim Plunkett, 22, Kade Simpson, 20, and Matthew Allan, 18 and five marks, despite being beaten in ruck duels by Guy Richards.

Northern Bullants coach Mark Williams was critical of Murphy's disposal and said Allan had "struggled a bit".

"Matthew couldn't make body contact and he wasn't too happy with his game," Williams said.
