LTI upgrade for Fasolo and the mid-season upgrade both available.swoop42 wrote:Fantastic victory given our depleted playing stocks.
Paine kicks straight and finally gets some reward for effort.
Hasn't been as bad as some suggest this season so far.
He's a keeper.
Martin needs to be upgraded as does Oxley if a place becomes available.
At the very least get Martin in ASAP...

I loved your updates MB
What a win by the mighty Pies. That's got to be our best win since we knocked off Port Melbourne last year.
I'm very impressed by Jackson Paine. Surely he'll be contention for next week's game against the Swans, and Martin looks the good. Unfortunately for Didak, I still think he's off the pace and nowhere near playing in the AFL. Does anyone think Dids will play in the seniors ever again?

Just home from the game. Paine was very good today, much better than the last time I saw him. Had his timing going and was crunching packs. Great stuff.
First time I've seen Oxley, he looks taller than I thought he was, has a great set of hands and reads the play well.
Caught up with a few people there which was great. John Wren, Jackass and Lazza down from Bendigo, Dave the Man and Fireup and also as I was walking to my car ran into WPT who had caught the last quarter on the way home from work.
Best part of all, Lachie Keeffe and Brodie Grundy both confirmed they are starting back next week. (assume getting through training OK)

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Not long home myself. Great win & great game.
Dawson Simpson for the cats is an absolute man mountain but I thought Huddo pantsed him today. He fed Martin & Moloney all day & was quite a presence. Kyle Martin was again outstanding especially around the stoppages. We could do with his tenacity in the seniors for sure. Oxley gave Mitch Brown a little too much room in the 3rd quarter & he made him pay, but there is enough to like about this kid to say he will be a player. A couple of courageous marks down back in the last quarter & continually repelled them. Moloney looks like a kid that is looking for a chance at the top level as well. Hard at it & tough. Hope we can get him at least on the rookie list next year. Broomhead showed a bit but I think he will be better for the run anyway. Johnno was pretty good without being outstanding & Dids drifted in & out of the game a bit. I like the look of Richmond as well. Sinkers had some good moments even in the air but got outbodied a few times. Needs a few Kg's
A couple of things I noticed in regards to game plan differences between the 2 teams. Just like the senior team we leave the goal unguarded a lot & get hurt by the bouncing ball on occasions. They always had someone back in their square. When we mark we stop & wait for a target whereas they mark & are on the move every single time. However I thought we out tackled them. The cats were tough at the contest & we matched them in that area as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the contest. Plenty of players down at Vic park supporting. Frost, Grundy, Young, Keeffe, Heater etc. Bucks down there as well. Sat near the dugout on the fence & although he is not the coach McRae has a lot of input as to regards to rotations & matchups. Bucks deep in discussion with him at the 1/4 time break as well.
Great win from the boys. Lets hope the one's take a leaf out of their book tonight.

Paine looked more consistent today and had a massive impact, especially in the second quarter - it looked to me for a few minutes like the bigger Cats were going to roll over the 'Pies but he stood up and crashed the packs, clunked some marks and kicked well. If he had kicked straight all day, he could have had 7 or 8. Johnno looks like he could play senior football. Dids looks like he used to (but I'm still hoping because he is such a beautiful kick - but you all know that already). Martin must get his chance soon - he kicks well over reasonable distances. I also thought Richmond showed some capability I hadn't really seen before.
A lot to like about that showing. Especially given that quite a few of the boys are only moderately capable seconds footballers - that just means that the ones who stood up really had to while carrying an extra burden.

good day at vic park and it is free!
the reason that we won today and not at willy was
we had a ruckman! hudson played well! in fact at the moment
i think he is the best ruck we have.
no player stood out and a few of the vfl players were good.
oxley, broomhead are good but are very skinny and not ready
for afl yet in my opinion.
martin was the best and johnno was also doing his bit.
paine will make it one day but he needs to get in front of
his man more often. i like the way tapping has tbe boys playing
with more direct style of play down the middle.
didak can kick the ball well! but he seemed to hurt his ankle
and was limping slightly.

Thanks for the updates, MB. Can't always follow the game live, so it's great to come here and go over the highlights. Plenty of insights as well. Overjoyed you got to sing the club song twice. Well played, MB.MagpieBat wrote:I just played the song a few times on my mobile phone and had a singalong as well.
May (or may NOT) be the only time this weekend I get to sing it...

Fantastic day at Vic park. Good to meet a few of the Nicks regulars.
Will post a bit more when I get more time but just quickly thought Martin was clearly our standout senior player. Paine played his best game for the year based on other games ive seen and reports. crashed a lot of packs, clunked some very good marks, and kicking was good. Great to see Broomhead get his first game, the kid oozes class and will definitely be better for the run. Johnno, Hudson, Sinclair, Yagmoor, and Oxley all solid. Some of Oxley's marking was very good. Dids got better as the game progressed but probably wasn't as good as his game up in Bendigo a couple of weeks ago. Mooney struggled to get into the game. Best game I've seen from Gault. Richmond continues to develop, better every time I see him.
Special mention to the VFL listed players. A few gems among them, especially the midget brigade.
