My annual VFL Captain thread.

Post by Presti35 »

I tend to do these once a year...

But if K Pendles is drafted or leaves the club, we'll be in the search of a new captain for the VFL side.

This years nomination....

Brad Green.

Or Paul Medhurst.

Ricky Ferraro acted as captain a few times this year in the absence of K. Pendles and did reasonably well.

If Krita goes, I think Ferraro would be a worthy candidate (if he goes around with us again).

Brad Green is apparently playing for Glenorchy next year.

Though Collingwood can have him for Glenorchy away games.

So Green is gone.

But I made this sugestion last year: http://www.magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopi ... ll#1165374

And I still think Luke Blackwell is the perfect fit for the role.

A year older, and another premiership.

Wouldn't mind Blackwell, but would he be prepared to move to Victoria?

A guy at the club reckons Green has signed, but I've not seen anything official, the talk is he will only play home games and not travel up north, etc.

Seems he is good mates with Ben Beams still, and wants to play under him.

Well Kris didnt manage to get onto an AFL list again. Makes you wonder what he needs to do. But look at Brent Goodes... 28 and given a chance.

Dont know where he sits right now, but some signs point to Kris leaving the club. I've heard talk about him going to captain Essendon's new team.

This does open the question, again, that if he leaves who gets the gig?

Collingwood VFL will have a better year in 2013 than in the past. Infact I will come out and say they will be top 6 and have their best season since joining the VFL only a few seasons ago.

My early, and silly, nominations of Green and Medhurst are officialy dust.

I'm still keen to get Luke Blackwell over here, but I doubt he'd leave Claremont.

I know Brent Prismal has been offered a job at the Dogs, but I wonder if he'd be good in the role as VFL captain? A friend of mine mentioned Mark McVeigh, but I think his body is gone.... and the last Essendon player we brought in lasted only one year and left in a strange circumstance.

What do you guys think?

Any chance we could coax Tarks out of retirement as a playing assistant coach/VFL capatin?

From the current crop of VFL players, I think Sundberg would go alright.

Ferraro stood in once or twice, from memory, in 2012 as skipper and did alright. Alas, he is gone, sadly...

Would it be possible that one of our experienced rookies in Hudson or Dwyer be named captain?

Oh dear, the worst has come true:

"@SamLandsberger: Kris Pendlebury has quit Collingwood VFL after 5 yrs. Gave the draft a shake but Pies again baulked. Will try under Westy at Werribee next."

Bloody Werribee will be more dangerous now.

Thanks for the memories, Krita.

So, who would make for a suitable replacement as captain?

Disappointing news about Kris Pendlebury, but it wasn't completely unexpected, considering Collingwood didn't want to take a punt on him at AFL level.

I've always wondered why he's been overlooked by so many clubs. He obviously has talent and he's pushing for a chance to be on an AFL list. I wished the club gave him a go, but the recruiters know more than we do obviously, so I hope they've made the correct call to overlook him for a spot on the list.

Good luck to Kris at Werribee. He's a big loss for our VFL side :(

Well, he seemed to crack it at Collingwood for not being given an opportunity in the rookie draft, but it wasn't just Collingwood that overlooked him.

He was an alright player in an average team. Maybe Werribee (STILL IN THE VFL KRITTER) will show where he really is.

My tip is Jack Helliar to replace Pendlebury.

Heard Brent Prismal come up again, but I think he's gone to Werribee or did he take that job at the dogs?
