the game was won in one quarter ?

Post by Slayer »

quarter time
pies 6.2 v dogs 0.3

apparently this is were we won the game.

next 3 quarters
pies 12 goals 18 points v dogs 12 goals 10 points.

shame we didnt make more of the extra 8 scoring shots we had in those 3 quarters ...... I'd say we dominated 3 of the 4 quarters regarding scoring shots at goal, we didnt punish them unfortunately - inaccuracy seems to follow us.

Great team effort, again showing our depth. For all the non believers this is the same doggies side that drew with the eagles .....

And regarding all this banter about how shit collingwood is or isnt, the best team in June doesnt get anything for its efforts ........ Just ask the Power.

We need to do enough to make the 8, maybe even top 4, the best team in september will decide this years premier. Whenever we hear about Adelaides back to back premierships, those players are regarded as great. Well for 22 rounds the crows were just an ok side, they played a fantastic finals series is all. History will show them as the premiers, no matter how average their season was.

It was a great game but we need to be even better if we r going to beat the Kangaroos next week. Even the players know this.

Gr8 to see Molloy actually getting to stay on the ground this week.

I think Alf has a point, it's great to have a win but we need to get the opposition into perspective. The reality is that every time we have played a quality team this year we have lost and the Bulldogs have only won one game this year so they are really struggling, especially having no key position players which we exploited pretty well. Our accountability seemed to be lacking at times though and great teams might punish us more for some of the defensive errors we made. We have been blessed with a great draw in not going west yet we have not taken advantage of it as yet.

well the kangaroos are ripe for the picking:

1. Played in WA

2. Played in wet and heavy conditions

3. We have had one extra days break

So no excuses if we cant beat them this week.

Well I couldn't make it to the game on Saturday nite due to family reasons so I had a new experience being in the chat room for the match.Donny invited me to do the commentary for the 2nd and last quarters and it was an awesome experience.I only had the radio to help me out good old triple mmm and it was a pain in the arse everytime bloody guildo got the ball!!!!! I would have loved to be at the game but my best mate passed away recently so his wife has been down with their youngest son visting us so I'm sure you can all understand why I couldn't attend the game. But I must say I throughly enjoyed the passion in the chat room on the nite it is an amazing thing getting reaction from supporters who are located in the country interstate oversea or for one reason or another ca cnot attend the game.Unfortnately next Saturday nite I have to attend a family members 50th birthday so I will miss another match so the missus lap top may come in very handy along with the chat and scoreboard room.

Geez, and I'm not on anyone's side here, but can we enjoy the moment? Was the best collingwood performance ever? No. Did we see some improvement from out of form players? Yes. Will that kind of performance get us a win at the Gabba or out West? Probably not. However, we played reasonably well, answered every challenge, never really looked threatened and won by 43 points. I for one am enjoying that, I'm not a player so I don't have to think about next weeks game until that game has started.
All I'm saying is if you can't enjoy every victory because you're concerned about next week than you are going to be very dissappointed unless you win the flag every year. Maybe I'm strange but I hate every loss and enjoy every win. Don't get ahead of myself, don't proclaim the Pies to be the best team ever after every win. But enjoy it or else what's the point?

And that folks-sums it up.

I'll be damned, what is the point indeed. Where do you get your joy from if you have a bitch and a whinge after a win-irrespective which AFL team you are playing.

We haven't been thrashed all year. And I include Essendon in that. The last quarter was abysmal but 76 points was not an accurate reflection on the game.

The losses to Brisbane, Port, Sydney and West Coast were all affairs that we had chances to win.

If you love your footy Alfie, let it love you back.
It was love at first sight.

Alf, I agree with much of what you are saying, but comparing getting hit by a car and hitting targets on the footy field has to be the worst analogy I have heard in a long while.

Now back to the actual game.

I didn't see it as I had other committments but from what I've read and the stats there are definitely some very pleasing aspects. Roccas return to form has to top the list, but he must keep it up now. We need him more than anyone else in the side to fire in order for us to be real challengers this season. Taz also did the job after being beaten last week. Just another sign of his ever increasing maturity.

Leon has to be dropped even if we don't really have anyone to bring back. Shaw if he's fit, Scoots if not.

We have been going W-L-W-L for a while now, so this next game against the Roos is absolutely cruitial. Most important game we have had this season by far and the odds are stacked in our favour. Must produce now.

We haven't been playing "good football" this season, we seem to have a "Grand Final Hangover" But I think we will fire against the Kangaroos, and make our run to the finals. But WE have to play as good as we did last year. Sure we are missing Lockyer, but as they say one player doesn't make a team.

6 losses ok , 3 of them were abortions ; Ess , SS & dawks.

The other 3 were against Port , WC & briss. The biggest of these 3 losses was what ? 16 points ? We played some top footy in all 3 games and were in front at certain stages of all 3 games. The bris and Port games were interstate and the first 10 mins of the wet toast game was costly. Not to mention these three are currently 1,2,3 on the ladder !

I think we're going just fine , 7 from the next 9 and a top four finish is the way I see it going. 8)
True, but here are some interesting reasons for us losing.

West Coast: Gave them a very big lead, and we chased it down, but we got tired, and in turn lost. We played well after we gave away that lead, but then we fell away.

Brisbane: Almost the same, in red time, we gave away many goals, that in the end hurt us. This game we started off well, and ended well, it was just the middle part that was shocking

Port Adelaide: Looked like we were flat, there were some good players in the game, but the rest of the players were down, we didn't play like we were going to win this game.

Other Games WE Probably Could of Won but didn't.

Sydney: See Brisbane game, we started full of running, and ended the same, but gave away too many goals. And it was too much for any team to chase down in the last quarter. IF they didn't score in the last we probably could of won.

Hawthorn: Bad kicking was the downfall, a few too many behinds, we had trouble converting.

Essendon: Were, better in the 2nd half then us, they just walked all over Collingwood, there were some players that were good, this had to be our worst loss for awhile, most games we have lost, but not been thrashed, until this game.

So yeah, we played some good games, but we didn't finish them off, I think the better game we had was against Adelaide, they are a strong side, that could of won the game at any time, but we had more run in our legs. I wouldn't count wins against, Richmond, Melbourne, Western Bulldogs as good games, the game againsty Geelong was pretty good, they fought it out until the last qusrter. I guess they finally ran out of steam. Or Collingwood was just playing around with them, I doubt that, I only say we haven't been playing good footy, because sometimes, we gave away a very big lead, and then had to try and chase it down, much like we have done in the past. There's been alot of good players for Collingwood this year, some of the guys that needed to fire, have done so. And some of them are surprising me, which is getting good, I hope to see a great performence by all the guys against North Melbourne, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, sure North had a hard week, but that still doesn't mean they aren't going to come out fired up.

Asassin.... a top 4 finish?

Very Optimistic. I don't think we're a better side than any in the top 4 right now. Port, West Coast, Brisbane and Adelaide will stay in the top 4. MCC could be our best friend come Septmber.
