An AFL-listed player must play at least six TXU-VFL games to qualify for the finals. This was going to be increased to 8, but as the number of teams were reduced to 13, creating an 18-game season, the number of games to qualify returned to 6.

However, as the AFL season will still be in progress when the first week of the TXU-VFL finals commence, all AFL-listed players will be available for selection for their aligned VFL clubs taking part in the finals.

The only exception is that AFL-listed players must have played at least one match in the TXU-VFL during the season,or missed through injury at least eight consecutive AFL or VFL home and away matches. The same rule applies if both an AFL team and its aligned VFL team both qualify for their respective finals series.
