Woe(y) is Melbourne
Are the dees ordinary or did the Pies make them look ordinary. At least we beat them by the same margin as Brisbane did. I think this game will start something special.

The Weed Report
Good win today, despite Melbourne being seriously mediocre. It was barely a contest after those first ten minutes. We seemed to lack a little confidence early and we didn't have clean hands, but once we had a couple of goals on the board, the Dees just slunk away meekly.
Still, it didn't happen by accident, and there was plenty of football to enjoy - Fraser tired as the game went on, but he and Tarrant really set up the win in the first three quarters, I thought.
(Side thread: we NEED to keep giving Josh the extra responsibility, as he appears to be thriving on it. It is the only way he will fulfil his potential. In the last six weeks he's made great strides: he is still not used to rucking out entire games, but he was brilliant early today.)
The other big plus was our back half. Our best defenders, Presti and Clement, absolutely obliterated Neitz and Robertson respectively. Even better, Rhyce Shaw has found his feet at this level. His speed, creativity, and delivery into attack have given the side a new dimension. Holland also looks reborn and he too is giving the side some genuine leg speed out of the back.
I thought Woewodin played just about the perfect game under the circumstances. He did nothing flashy, instead concentrating on getting in and under and winning the contest. His six possessions in the first quarter were all handballs out of traffic. He might just snag a Brownlow vote for his efforts (but he will face plenty of competition from Scott Burns).
As for Chris Tarrant, he is really playing the role of a CHF at the moment. His value is not just in goals kicked as in running the opposition defenders off their feet, setting up numerous attacking moves himself. He'll do more than get votes; he might just win the medal the way he's playing.
The problems arise when the second tier players don't step up to the plate, as Tarrant rarely kicks enough goals to win matches himself. But today a few players with question marks over their heads really ran themselves into some form.
Today we showed, again, that we are still a work in progress. Without Buckley, our young guns stepped out and showed what they are capable of. Our premiership prospects rests on their continuing development into consistent players.
Case in point: Ryan Lonie. He was one of our best in the finals last year; a proven big-game player. Today he played only his 50th game and showed in two brilliant bursts how damaging he can be. When he can do it in more than bursts, he will become a champion.
On the flip side, Melbourne were very poor. They are so hard to pick - really we should have been playing them in the prelim last year. They can play inspired football, but today they would have been blown away by a puff of wind. So the excitement of the win needs to be tempered by the reality that there are sterner tests to come.
But a few boys who have been down (Didak, Scotland, Davis) will be feeling a lot better about themselves this week, and that can only give us momentum as we go into the second half of the year. GO PIES!

A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned!
Drop Molloy I say. But remember the odd brilliant burst against an ordinary player doesn't make someone a gun. Yes you think I am being negative again but you have to look at opposition and put performances in context. Shaw is improving but mainly plays well when he can run free. I am sure that if he continues to run out of defence without an opponent the opposition will put a stop to this. Not difficult to accumulate stats if you are running free all day like woey did against Adelaide. Next week they put someone on him and he struggled. You think I sound negative but every week we have a win everyone is proclaimed a champion, the next week the doomsday merchants are out.
